Well, I've run into somewhat of a problem with my Mage Guild quests. I've already dueled the Arch-Mage (Trebonius or whatever his name is), and he is very much dead, and yet I have two quests that require me to speak with him. Now, this is really not that big a deal, since I'm almost Arch-Mage in the guild (killing him only raised me to Master Wizard), but it would be nice to see those two open quests come to an end. I've tried using the editor to make a copy of the guy, but since the duel quest is still running he attacks me right away and even when calmed simply says "Meet me in the arena", leaving only the "Goodbye" option as an answer. Perhaps someone with better knowledge of the editor can offer advice as to how I can fix this problem and complete the two quests?

Hey man,
I have the same problem. In your stats bar, are you listed as an Arch Mage or a Master Wizard? I've defeated Trebonnious, but I have to deliver a letter to him (???) and I'm only a Master Wizard.

I'm Master Wizard in the faction list, with Arch-Mage as the next rank. I don't yet have the skills for it, but the guild "leaders" in the other towns tell me that I "need to practice my skills" (the default message), not that I have to talk to so-and-so or something, so I'm hoping they'll be able to promote me to Arch-Mage when I get the skills. It does seem like some sort of bug in the scripting though, because in the Fighters Guild when you kill their guild leader, you become Master no matter your rank (at least I did).

Do u know what skills u need to become an Arch Mage? Does anyone know?
Eater1 on 10/6/2002 at 19:21
You need a 90 in one skill and like 35 in others....
But does anyone have an answer to my question? Someone here has to know how to use the editor, maybe they can tell me how to modify the duel quest so that he doesn't attack me and actually talks to me (or maybe I can hack the save game and turn that quest off?).

Hrm.. it's not too hard to do this yourself, Eater1; just pop open the editor, load up Morrowind.esm, select the "NPC" tab, find and double-click Trebonius, and hit "Dialogue".
Then it's just a matter of finding the "duel" dialogue and determining what vars/Journal entries need to be propagated (via the console) to let him feel it's done with. Took me about 30 minutes to figure out the logic most dialogues use.
(I'd help you out, but I'm kinda about 300 miles from my game comp just now)

There ya go Forsythe, now answer that same question 4 more times, along with about 20 others, and then you can be bitchy like me. =D

I believe the var is "duelActive" (it would make the most sense too), but I'm not sure how to change it via the console. It could also have something to do with MG_Guildmaster (the journal entry) being at 50 or above, but since I don't know that much about how Morrowind works, I can't really tell, but I'm pretty sure it's one of those two things. Could you tell me how to change variables via the console or point me to a site with a list of console commands (besides the general "cheat" commands).
[EDIT]
Oh, and thanks for the help.

Tuco - Oh, but I could never be as bitchy as you, I just couldn't live up to that particular standard ;)
Eater1 - The command to set (for example) journal entry A1_1_FooBar to 50 is:
Journal A1_1_FooBar 50
As to setting vars, dunno, scan thru his dialogue some more; whatever commands you see in the bottom window for a particular dialogue choice are the commands you should enter.

OK, thanks. I should be able to figure this out now.
