Apparently I'm schizophrenic. - by van HellSing

At least the military says so.
Since I'm done with college, I needed an excuse not to get drafted. I'm in psychiatric treatment for depression, so I decided to use that, and I applied for an reexamination of my military category.
So I get my documents from my psychiatrist, and I get to the examination. I enter the room to be examined by the military psychiatrist, he tells me to sit down, then to show him my documents. He flicks through them for some 5 seconds, and gives them back. He writes down something on my examination card, kthxbai.
I leave the room and I look at the card: schizophrenia. Lol. What probably happened is that he only looked at the meds I'm prescribed, and since they are used for schizophrenia as well as other things, he figured I'm a shizo.
So now I proudly bear the rare and prestigious draft category E, which means I'm totally and utterly useless for the military. That's good, but I hope I don't run into problems when I'm looking for a job now...
Oh well, we'll see.

Why oh why I didn't go for psycho exam before my draft? The only thing that could save me was my allergy, but that wasn't enough for the grunts to leave me alone. Thirteen useless months of alternative civilian military service!!!
No matter. The brain is patient.

In my case the military just decided that they had too many people already, so they discharged around 70% of the candidates on the year I turned 18. So I never got to waste any of my precious time being shouted at.

Could be worse! Oh well, I have a slight number dyslexia thing.
War is a horrible place, I hope I never go.

At least you'll never be lonely; the voices will keep you company.

Which is worse, to be at war with others, or with one's self ... with real enemies or imaginary ones?
Just kidding, I thought that would sound ominous.
But you're not really schizo anyway ... that's convenient.
I can't even imagine what a draft would be like, even though we (US) had one not too long ago, it seems very foreign to me now.

Sorry I can't hear you while I'm talking to myself loudly.
WHAT DID YOU SAID?

Those draft commissions are bullshit. I have a friend, who has a really big eyesight problem (his lenses are so thick they make bottles look thin). He went thru the usual procedure and what - got an A - perfectly suited for the army. And since he can't afford any post high school education - he was drafted a few months ago.
Oddly, he seems to bear it somehow - he was signed into a paramedic unit (despite having no medical knowledge) and he copes with the situation.
And the thing is that after spending 9 months he and many others like him will be useless in terms of modern military - it's IMHO just a waste of time and money.
Hope the new government deals with this issue quickly.

Heh, I know that one too, my eyesight also quite bad, and I'm allergic to dust, still got A on my first commission.
