Title pretty much says it all. I'd prefer to buy it legally than pirate it...I don't trust any torrent site.

System Shock 1 or System Shock 2?
Basically neither are really legally obtainable anymore, outside of dodgy second-hand copies sold on eBay, which don't really count. You might be able to find an odd shop selling a long-lost pristine copy, but it's rare. The games are no longer in print as far as I know, so it's really difficult to find them.
It looks like an Amazon merchant currently have one for sale for in excess of $100.

I don't think the copies you find on e-Bay are necessarily 'dodgy'... I got a copy of SS2 from there some three or four years ago, and I have absolutely no complaints about it. And I also got a SS1 copy there, complete with all original manuals and documentation in mint condition.

It's more a case of considering that no one involved in the development gets anything from the sale of second-hand copies.

I would draw the line at 50 bucks. Your money isn't going to fund anything but somebodies action figure collection anyway. :thumb:

Kind of a moot point where SS1 and SS2 are concerned.
Too bad EA is still turning their nose up at GOG.

Most people would prefer this, in fact, I bet most of those that actually do pirate games would prefer this, but DRM's and copyright laws often make that impossible, as you are currently experiencing. I too have looked and looked for some old good games that I just can't buy anymore.
I was lucky, I found this game at some place that sold old games. I don't think it was Game Stop, although game stores similar to that have yielded some very good deals at times. For example, I found a new copy of X3TC for $10 once there. I found a nice little FPS gem, Tron 2.0, for like $5 somewhere in a place like that. Unfortunately with them it's more of a hit and miss. You get lucky one day and find a good deal on some PC game you've long forgotten that you wish you could own. I found Alien's Vs. Predator 2 Gold once for $10, and I still regret not buying it because now I can't find it anywhere and online it's expensive.
If I were a game maker, I would make my game accessible to everyone after about 5 years or so just because I'm a gamer who likes older games sometimes, and I know how it feels to never be able to play a great game again due to unnecessary DRM's and Copyright laws that are still in effect despite the fact that the game has no monetary value for the game-maker nor the contracted retail sellers anymore.
I'd recommend Amazon.com. Usually some video game store that specializes in selling old gaming equipment and games will have it periodically and post it's availability online at Amazon. Unfortunately, they aren't usually very cheap when they're old gems like this System Shock or System Shock 2. Those stores love to over-price their old games.
Good luck.

I'm kind of surprised Shock 2 has never been picked up by the Sold Out Software super-budget line. They've done cheapo versions of a lot of the other games that feature on TTLG (to date Thief, Thief II, Thief III, Deus Ex, Flight Unlimited II & III). Mastertronic (Sold Out's parent company) even do a "Thief Complete Collection" DVD that includes Thief Gold (£3.99 on Amazon at the moment).
Admittedly nearly all of these titles were originally published by Eidos, but Flight III was an EA game.
I could do with somebody releasing a cheap copy as my original disc has a scratch that renders the intro cutscene unreadable.
