It looks pretty interesting. Apparently the movie is based on a novel and both the novel and the movie inspired the game.
I'll probably check it out sometime this week.

Be warned that it's art-house, if you mostly like popular movies you more than likely won't get/like it.
I love the soundtrack, it's fantastic especially for 1979, the guy who made it was peoneer of electronic music in SU.

Good luck finding it, I've been trying to find this movie for a few months now. Our local art house DVD shop has almost all of Tarkovsky's other works but not this one. But the owner is actively looking for it.

It might be a difficult watch at first if you are not into these kind of films but visually it's a masterpiece in the traditional sense of 35mm cinematography. It's slow paced, you don't have to watch the whole film at one take, but seriously, if there can ever be a "poetic film", this is it.
If you liked the locations in the game, you'll love the locations in this one also. There is a rumor that Tarkovsky and the crew were exposed to radiation/poisonous chemical waste during the filming in Estonia's abandoned hydro power plant since many of the crew died from cancer/untimely deaths, including the director himself.
Also, the movie's title stalker means "guide", not the threatening meaning in English.

Nah, it's just a red herring.

rumor:Gossip (usually a mixture of truth and untruth) passed around by word of mouth.
Anyway, the locations are (

It's great, the photo is fantastic. Solaris is his best work though, imo.
