Watching videos of people beating this boss, for some reason it looks easier than it is for me, as if the timing is more lenient for dodging those area attacks. I take damage pretty much instantly from them. I wonder if it's not some framerate/refresh issue or something along those lines :/
That video was like my 50th attempt...
It should only damage you on the white flash. If you dodge while it's still pink, you're alright.

Wait, so "Hyper Light Drifter" isn't a retro vector racing game? Because if it's not, that's a hell of a poor choice of title.

No, you see the guy's a drifter, right? And his sword is made out of hyper light. The title makes PERFECT SENSE!

Is it meant to be a play on High Plains Drifter, or is that just a tenuous coincidence?

Actually, that makes even more sense.

This was by far the hardest boss so far:

He was the hardest for me as well. Though if I knew you could trick him into destroying his helpers while they were still in the crystals, he would've been considerably easier.

Yep - didn't stand much chance til I figured that out.

By the way, have you thought about using the spread gun yet? You have to shoot it point blank to get the most out of it, but it does so much damage, the risk is worth the tradeoff.
The damage you had him down to about a minute into the fight? I would've taken that off after one assault.
Oh, and if you have the upgrade, you can smack his shots back at him.

So, so pretty. So, so atmospheric. So, so, so, so, so, so, so, so hard... I doubt I'll ever finish this.
