There's a recipe for Chinese silver loaves in the kitchen in the Luminous Path Compound in Hong Kong. Anyone ever tried making this?

Could you put up the ingredients? Maybe it's some common Asian food with a fancy name.

Recipe from game:
Chinese Silver Loaves
1 3/4 cups hot water
3 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons vegatable oil or shortening
6 cups plain flour
2 tablespoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoons salt
Add sugar and shortening to hot water and stir until sugar is dissolved and allow to cool until barely warm
Sift remaining ingredients into a large mixing bowl, and gradually stir in sugar mixture. Mix well and gradually draw dough together with your hands. It should be soft but not sticky
On a floured board, knead dough about 5-8 minutes or until smooth or elastic. Return to bowl, cover with damp cloth, and let rise at least 1 hour.

Originally posted by Child of Karras Maybe it's some common Asian food with a fancy name. Yup, it's quite common. It is very common in *northern* Chinese cuisine (flour-based) and usually served just like breads in Western cuisine. However, it's not as common among *southern* Chinese cuisine (rice-based).

But did anyone try making it with the recipe to see how it would come out (yummy:thumb: or yucky :eww: ?)

In my personal experience I could find it in restaurants only (it has to be fresh from the pot), not in eateries where you can order takeouts in paper boxes with steel wires. ;) :cheeky:

I think there's a pretty steep difference in the kinds of Chinese food being sold at the states and in Asia. I see all those movies and go "wtf" cause I've not heard of them and being in a Chinese-domianted country makes me wonder...

Where are you and what is this place, Child of Karras? Don't tell me you are in China/HK/Singapore/Taiwan. :p
If your system can read Traditional Chinese (Big5) it is written as 銀絲捲

I'm in Singapore.
And sorry. My Mandarin is terrible. It's only my 2nd language and I don't like it anyway....
Anyway, I've asked the people around me. I get a similar response:
"Wtf is chinese silver loaves?"
