I like the interface, as well.
It was not, however, really unique. It's nearly identical to how it was done in two other FP/RPGs by Origin. . . Ultima Underworld I & II.

Wasn't their some speculation years ago about using the mouse to control the viewpoint via the VR headset interface and then just fixing the cursor in the middle of the screen (I guess with a keypress to disable this to you can 'use mode' like you'd need to)?
Probably can't be done easily without the source code.

You are probably right, but can you even BUY a VR headset that is System Shock compatible? I would LOVE to check that out, conbined with that little toy above .. *drool
