After playing the game a couple of times, I found the body armor was only really useful when I knew beforehand where the clusters of enemies were waiting for me based on replay. The armor doesn't last very long timewise and unless you time it's use perfectly before a firefight, it won't be all that helpful. Sure you can extend it's life upping your skill level, but even that burns out fast.
I wish there was a way to activate the armor more easily on the fly or make it damage based like most games (I.E. it degrades after X number of hits) or the item was something you could upgrade throughout the game at the cost of not improving something else (i.e. another balance issue of stealth players versus gunners)

I don't even bother picking them up.

Same here. The only time I used the armor was when I first started the game and wanted to fool around with the various items.

Basically, the only time I use armour is when I want to scuttle the Wall Cloud without using explosives - it is rather difficult to survive otherwise. And no, I am happy with the time-based approach for all kinds of suits - it is an elegant way of explaining why their respective effects remain at the same level throughout the whole time they are active. It would be nice if it were possible to have them run on bioelectricity in addition to built-in "power" supplies, then again that's what augmentations are for.

Who needs body armor when you have the regeneration augmentation? :D

Ideal for me:
Using body armor removes it from inventory and puts a status icon under the aug bar. Armor ticks down using "standby power" very slowly, being hit causes it to drain more quickly for a short time after being hit.

I liked the idea of using the ballistics aug and body armor at the same time and going into a huge firefight and kicking ass. The game wasnt quite fps oriented enough to make that fun though.

Some bits are, and I play them over and over sometimes, like the MJ12 ambush in the graveyard :D

True. I had blown up the generator thing before I even went into the grave. I was looking for secrets and smashing walls and basically anything else.

The best part of the game for that is cleaning out the Paris streets. Damn, I really love that level. There's tonnes to do in it, and you can either sneak or go full-on Rambo-mode.
