Well, derailing threads like that is a quick way to make the forums die.

In the era y'all reminisce about, I wanted to post on General Gaming but didn't, because I was afraid of Dethtoll. Looking around the room, I see more than one pair of nostalgia goggles.
The heart of TTLG, its Thief FM subforums, remains the center of the Thief community in an era where Steam or Discord take on that role for most other games. TTLG is the Doomworld or Quaddicted of the Thief community.
The remainder of the site is frequented by people who came of age at the height of LGS, who value immersion above all else in games. They are technically savvy, well-informed, and often indie or hobbyist developers. Their number is low, but their quality is high.
The level of activity is low enough that one can easily keep up with every subforum, barring the FM and Editor's Guild ones. Thread necromancy is encouraged, allowing one to easily read thoughtful comments from numerous people, aggregated in one place. In the other forum I frequent, threads are locked after 45 days without activity, which is a bit nuts.
When a vendetta comes to be, like June Gloom versus Subjective Effect or NBohr1more versus reality, people on the sidelines will express frustration and attempt to intercede, but the vendetta does not spread. This is unlike many other forums, where people see vendettas as a sort of wargame, a place where they can jump in and out of entertaining conflicts. Moderation is rare, but when it does occur, it occurs decisively. This is frustrating, but it is better than the detailed systems of rebuke, suspension and banning that appear on other sites, because such systems are too easy to game.
TTLG is the only Chaotic Good forum I know. As far as my needs and tastes are concerned, the site is the best it's ever been.

I still check in from time to time. I usually go to GenGaming or one of the specific game forums.
