Stop getting privileged old white men banned from their gaming forums! *swings cane*

Slack (and I think Discord) have message permanence...
Eh, it's only like 10,000 messages without upgrades, which sounds like a lot but isn't.
Like, when I wanted to look back at how the Trump Dump started, I could
do that, here. In Discord or Slack it would be very difficult if it were possible at all.

I wasn't suggesting to use Discord or Slack. I made actual suggestions that are more flexible and can be self-hosted and which apparently no one looked at. Which is fine since it's not happening either way. So you can stop explaining to me why Discord/Slack is not a good replacement.

At this point I would archive the whole forum and replace it with an open source Slack/Discord-clone.

Excuse us for taking your word for what they were.

Maybe you should explain how they're better in the specific respects people bring up, instead of bitching everyone out for
checks notes believing you.

Haha, yeah it's that tone I keep coming back for. :)
An open source clone is (despite what the word clone may suggest) usually not exactly the same and I gave 2 linked examples of such software.
EDIT: I am well aware of the general differences between forum software and chat software, but there's a lot of room inbetween nowadays. Which from my point of view would be worth exploring or at least thinking about.
But most who commented here just lunged at the chance to illustrate their fear of perceived disadvantages of Slack/Discord themselves (because they know these).
So this discussion is moot. Not because of a lack of technical solutions, but because obviously no one here wants a change.

https://element.io/) Element or (
https://zulip.com/) Zulip.
Yeah but these 2, judging from the screenshots on their pages, look very
chatty. I really don't care what TTLG actually runs on, but I've always felt more comfortable in forums than chatrooms. It's the little things, like no one can see a prompt saying "henke is typing" right now, meaning I can back out of this post if it doesn't come together in a way I like by the time I'm done writing it. And I can spend a few minutes thinking about what else I might wanna add, before hitting Submit. Welp, I can't think of anything, so here goes.
edit: oh, and I can come back and add an edit if I do think of something, without having to worry about the discussion already having moved on!

I find the forum very active. You have at least 10 new posts every day in all sections.
And i saw new members joining too...
Not to mention the amount of reactions for the fan missions.
:) Active enough!

Ah, but henke, you're just saying that because you're afraid of change.
Seriously, Kolya, I think you have some points that are worth considering, but you package them in so much dickery of the "I am right, your points are just more evidence that you're old and afraid of change, serve yourselves" kind that it's difficult to discuss most things with you in good faith.
Kolya on 9/3/2021 at 11:15
From my point of view it's that trying to discuss any change here immediately turns into an uphill battle, which pushed me into a corner of having to defend even making a suggestion.
And speaking of good faith: This discussion has stopped being about any realistic chance of change a while ago. It is now about legitimizing your choice and proving that Kolya is wrong/a liar/a dick/whatever. I have no interest in that.
