Totally agree on Angry Joe. His videos are excellent.
Some others I really enjoy that have a gaming angle:
* Cinemassacre - One of my long time favorites. Coverage of mostly old games, and his show "The Angry Videogame Nerd" has become quasi-mainstream. Which is not common for retro focused Youtubers.
* Fine Brothers Entertainment (FBE) - Mostly game reaction videos besides their standard content. Some new, some old. The reaction videos to the recent "Friday The 13th" game were excellent. As are when they get the kids to try out really old technology.
* Game Sack - Long videos (usually 20-40 minutes long) on retro gaming. Often on quite obscure console systems. Very console-centric show.
* Happy Console Gamer - A mix of old and new with this one. Does reviews of old games and new ones.
* Jon Tron - Controversy aside, I love his videos. Mostly retro gaming, though sometimes current stuff.
* Lazy Game Reviews - Retro gaming, computer and console repair.
* Metal Jesus Rocks - Reviews of mostly retro content, and does stuff on running retro stores.
* Pat The NES Punk - Good retro coverage and podcasts, some stuff on running retro stores, as well as trips to flea markets to find retro games.
* Pixelmusement - A nice mix with this one, especially if your intro games development. Covers reviews of old DOS games (as part of his Ancient Dos Games series) and games development (with his Gemini Makes Games show).
* Port Center - Coverage of the various ports of games. Retro only.
* The 8-Bit Guy - Reviews of old computers and consoles, does videos on repair/restoration of old systems/consoles, repairs of cartridges. Really damn fascinating stuff. Especially for me since I run an ebay store selling retro games.
* Watch Mojo - Top 10 lists of various stuff. Gaming often pops up on this.

If we're just doing recommendations now, here's one you might not know about:

PtoPOnline - Preserving Game History - a whole bunch of prototype footage from unreleased games, like Oni 2, Oblivion PSP version, Mega Bloks Halo (looks surprisingly decent), 100 Bullets. Also lots of alpha footage from games that
did end up getting released.

I have been thinking about maybe starting my own channel to fill a gap, for personal development, or to post/stream from developing my own game, but I doubt I ever will: it's not my thing to talk a lot and I'm not good at it, although starting my own channel could be a reason to get better at it -- or at least get used to it -- which might do me good. I doubt it would be a particularly popular channel, but that wouldn't be my main goal (or even a goal at all). I will, however, probably and eventually post some videos (without any commentary) when I have something worth showing.
For LP-ers, or streamers in general, I'm following myself, I've found myself watching less and less and losing interest in the whole thing. I think one problem is that once a channel grows, they might want to try and make a living off of it, which means that their content changes, which is when I lose interest. I seem to not like what's generally popular, so I prefer the smaller channels who still do their own thing. I can't of course blame anyone for wanting their channel to grow; it's just a shame that the change needed is often for the worse (in my opinion). Just like NV, I prefer an LP being mainly about the game being played, not the one playing it.
I think many followers see the LP as a social thing, so the player matters more than the game being played, which means face cam, player persona etc has to overshadow and steal focus from the game if the LPer wants to grow their channel. I'm the opposite there, so there is only at most a handful of LPers I can stand watching these days. I can't help but thinking, though, that there could be an audience for more game centered LPs with a calm, collected, no face cam, no screaming in your face etc presenter, if only that audience (wanted to?) make itself more visible on Youtube -- and also more outspoken about what they want. Anyway, it doesn't really matter in the end: "I'm too old for this shit..."

I'd recently been watching some of MandaloreGaming's reviews on YouTube, and since I'd subscribed to him, I ended up watching an FAQ video he made over Christmas.
In it, he answered the question of why he does this for free, doesn't have a Patreon or anything like that, and one of the things he said was that he loves making the videos, doesn't really need more money to make better videos, and wouldn't feel justified putting his content behind a paywall for people, especially if he couldn't make better quality videos for them as a result.
I can respect that.
He also mentioned that a lot of the time, people start asking for money on Patreon so that they can do it full-time, but then seem to make fewer videos rather than more, I guess because once it's your job it kind of stops being as much fun?
