For some time now, I've been looking for a program that will let me bind keys to the mouse wheel for use in old DOS games. At first I thought Auto Hotkey would be perfect, except that the mouse wheel functions, the one thing I wanted it for, don't work under Windows 98, which is the machine the DOS programs are being run on.
I found a program called MouseWheel Control, which said it worked under 98, but every single shareware site on the net links back to the company page, which only has links for the current version, which doesn't work on 98. I even asked if I could buy a copy of the older version and they said no.
I downloaded a program called VolMouse, which was originally designed for controlling the volume with the mouse. The author later added the ability to bind keys to the wheel. It works great... In every program EXCEPT a DOS window, or even DOSBox! The author says that his program can't detect wheel input from a DOS program, and so can't send the keys.
I tried contacting the author of Joy2Key to see if he could make something similar for the mouse, but apparently he's long gone.
So, is there any way to hack ShockWheel to work with other programs? Failing that, does anyone know of any program that will work under 98 and allow you to bind keys to the mouse wheel?
I'd particularly like to use it with Dark Forces.

That is a damn good question. I hope it gets answered, I find myself wanting to use MW the same way.
