I'm using two mods that I would highly recommend. One is an improved flashlight, which is much better and more realistic than the default flashlight.
(

...and the second one is a mod that lets you actually put on the various weapon attachments to all the weapons that you're supposed to be able to (according to the attachment description in-game; e.g. the m203 for the GP-37, the silencer for most everything).
(

Both of these don't change any of the game balances or systems, and I probably will play with both of them from now on. I'm also using the float32 graphics mod, but I don't really like it. I think it makes things unrealistically dark (when I'm walking at night, I CAN actually see you know). So I can't recommend that one...but the other two I think are great.

Well, removing the game rules is not exactly what I'd call an improvement.
I thought about some graphical and feature improvements. New things, not removing things. more realism e.g.
fair enough, but i really do recommend the no time limit mod. which i think IS more realistic anyway. ;)

I think you should play game without any mods for the first time. Only patch it.

It messed some lair quests for me when i tried it. If some creatures didnt spawn properly those "purge xxx lair" quests couldnt be finished ever (since they wouldnt run out so you could take em again and get proper spawns hopefully), so id end up with a deadwood quest instead of a failed one. After i removed the mod, the displayed timer stuck at one day, despite the time running in the background so i never knew how much time i actually had left. Use with caution id say.

Ah yes, that's true. Happened to me only once, though. One of the very first quests. I didn't take it (and the reward) as too important...

Hm, I started a new game with this OLmod and I get the lucky strike, the marlboros and the quite cool dream feature, but I can only carry 50kg instead of 80kg...

yeah, I've noticed that but that was no prob, I've changes it myself in files
\gamedata\config\creatures\actor.ltx -> max_item_mass = 50.0
\gamedata\config\syste.ltx -> max_weight = 50
This mod is very well done along with its readme where you can see which file does which modification.

I like the trader mod... (
http://stalker.filefront.com/file/Trader_Mod;77325) http://stalker.filefront.com/file/Trader_Mod;77325
This mod opens up all the items in the game, allowing you to buy anything you like from the first trader (once you have the money of course).
Hint...make sure you get the stalker suit hidden at the base in the attic, sell your old one along with the artifact from the wasteland to the left of the trader's shop, and get a hunting shotgun (Tos34) and some shells to start you off, gets you off to a real flyer :cheeky:
