Wow, it's been a hot second. I haven't logged into these forums in God knows how long. I was at a friends house the other night and he had a copy of Thief for Xbox One (I know, I know) and I borrowed it, because honestly I wanted to recreate some of that sneaking around feeling. And honestly, I realized I missed the Thief games tons. That led me to thinking about TTLG forums and community I had here, so I figured I would poke my head in.
So here I am, poking. Wasn't sure if any of the old school people were around? Also wasn't sure the best place to post this, but I only ever posted in the Thief forums so I went for here.
And just so this thread isn't completely irrelevant - How often do you guys go back and play the Thief games? Do you feel they have aged well, or not so much? I still remember the first time I played the first Thief demo, and being 100% stoked to play the full game and was hooked instantly. But I wonder how much of me remembering the series is nostalgia (At least the original game).

does 2004 qualify as old school? anyway, judging by how popular the games still are (even with people that weren't alive yet at the time you registered here) on GOG and steam, they still have something to offer even when nostalgia isn't involved.

Yep for sure, my 14 year old son just recently played and completed Thief2 for the first time, he loved it.

I think the series has aged really well. The best place for you to see it is the new patches (tafferpatcher, tfix) and fan missions.

My 10 year old son and I have been playing through the original trilogy. He enjoys watching me play and telling me where to go, though he doesn't like to drive.
I believe that the series has aged well. Graphically it's showing it's age, for sure, but for my money nothing beats it story-wise.

Another old taffer here! :) I've been here since 1999. I don't often play the OMs anymore but there are hundreds and hundreds of fan missions to keep you busy. I've got some catching up to do on them myself! If you want to experience Thief again, then head on over to the FM forum and check them out. Welcome back, by the way! :)

I wouldn't count myself among the old guard of this community (as you can no doubt tell by my registration date), but I've been a Thief fan for nearly my entire life. I remember watching my dad play it when I was really young (probably practically a toddler at that stage) and wanting to play it for a long time before eventually being allowed to when I was maybe 9. That means I've been playing off and on for 11 years or so, and a fan for probably 16 or 17 years. I found this place in probably 2012-2013, and registered a few years later because a) I thought it was weird to be using things from the community without saying anything, and b) I wanted to be a voice actor so I could give something back. I'm not sure that I can definitively speak as a member of the younger generation of fans because of Thief's early influence on my perception of games on the whole, but I don't think that any of us are terribly influenced by nostalgia- just by good game design. I've tried to sell Thief as something great to some of my peers, but it's rarely stuck. I think that on the whole it's a certain type of person who's drawn to Thief, regardless of age or prior knowledge of it. Anyway, old taffer? Not exactly. Longtime fan? Certainly.

I think '99... then again I'm 40 so... It depends on perspective, doesn't it? ;)

I guess I count as old.

Just in numbers, mate. Not really important.
