I am curious as to why they are not pursuing one of the original ideas, which is to drill a relief well near the leaky one so that the leak can be plugged. One thing I can think of is that the relief well would have to be of a considerably larger diameter to offer a flow path of less resistance, and that may present a feasibility challenge.
They are doing that, actually. It's the only sure-fire solution at this point.
The problem is it won't be ready until
August.

This may be too Carl Childers a solution but if the original blowout preventer was supposed to be able to slice through the pipe and clamp it shut then what is stopping them from slipping one over the pipe and doing that now with one that actually works? Or do any of them actually work?
Meanwhile Fort Morgan and Orange Beach are getting chunk blown by oil so Florida is next. Luckily most of it will be underwater thanks to the dispersants and will mostly just wipe out the coral reef.

Worst ecological disaster in memory and they're asking the fucking internet for solutions? That's like going to 4chan for relationship advice, wtf.
I think they went there first, as 'stick it in 'er pooper' was the first thing they tried.
(also: aren't supertankers bigger than aircraft carriers?)

That article is all screwed up though. Premillenial Dispensationalists believe the "bowls" will be poured out after the Rapture, not before. Of course, most Premillenial Dispensationalists don't know they believe that, but it's what the theology teaches.

Maybe, but I would think aircraft carriers would be much heavier with all that armor and whatnot. A supertanker is fairly hollow I would imagine.

Uh uhm, liquid water weights 1 kilogram per liter, and oil is much more dense than normal liquids.
You do the maths.
Nevermind that, I'm the dense here.

What if the pipe is cut off a foot or two above the sea floor then the rovers screw very long wide finned screws alongside the pipe into the sea floor sort of like dog cable anchors but with the above floor portion being regular bolts. Atop these bolts a plug with slanted fins made to expand against pressure is fitted and nuts can then be slowly tightened pulling the plug snug. If the finned screws are deep enough and the tensile strength of the bolts strong enough why wouldn't this work?

Aircraft carriers(and significant majority of other modern warships) aren't armored at all. You'd probably be better off with an icebreaker, esepcially russian one.

You know how cum coagulates under water, turning into a sticky, unremovable mass...
I'm just saying it's a thought.
