Good trekking session tonight. We beat the main campaign and then decided to try our hand at some of the extra missions in the original Enterprise. The game warned us that the Enterprise was for "Advanced Players Only", once we were sitting at our stations we understood what that meant.

I've only seen a few episodes of the original series, but I really appreciate how true they've stayed to the horribly clunky interface of the original Enterprise.

I know I've been harping on about it a bit recently, but would any of the regulars be interested in downloading the (
https://tomclancy-thedivision.ubisoft.com/game/en-us/free-trial/) free trial of The Division to see how they get on with it? I think it could become a great regular alternative game for our co-op sessions, especially as it's pretty easy to reach top level and that there's decent procedural mission generation. Plus, the gunplay's fab and the relatively fluid class system encourages co-op.

I'll gladly check it out, but I'm not around all that often for the next few weeks, so I'd probably only do so come mid-December. Are group sizes fixed? Could we play with fewer than four, and is it possible for teams of more than four people to play together?

You can definitely play with fewer, but it maxes out at four. I regularly play the Underground procedural levels single player, but the difficulty is very customisable and I believe it scales with player numbers too. There's lovely little modifiers you unlock in the Underground as your Underground level goes up, such as having to complete the level without a map, or re-loading meaning you lose the bullets in the mag. The more of these you have enabled, the harder it gets, but the more rewards you get.

Yeah I'd be up for giving The Division a go. Don't know if I can be bothered with a demo though. I'm betting it'll be 15 bucks when the Steam Halloween Sale starts on Monday, will pick it up then.

So The Division isn't on sale on Steam, but it is on Uplay. Standard Edition is £16.00, while Gold is £30. I think the 20% for 100 points works too. Personally, I'd recommend the Gold edition, as that includes Underground, but I understand if people don't want to splooge that much. Or, you could go for Standard and just buy Underground as DLC for £5.99.

I'm still not sure I can drop £30 on Arma. I'm trying not to let gaming expenditures get out of hand. Although I'd like to join a co-op session nevertheless... argh
Malf on 27/10/2017 at 11:13
I can grok that. I picked it up for £14.99 last November. At that price, it was a steal.
BTW, Helldivers is free to play for the weekend on Steam. I own it already, but haven't played it 'cos I was waiting for co-op buddies to play with. But I'd be more than happy to play this weekend. My visitors aren't turning up this week (probably next), so I'll make the ARMA3 sesson and have time available for some Division / Helldivers too!
..although literally as I was posting this, my work colleague handed me a package that just arrived for me. Super Mario Odyssey.
TOO MANY GAMES.

For what it's worth, scumble, there are only two or three more Arma sessions before Christmas, at which point I expect there'll be a sale.
Malf, with respect to The Division: would the idea be that we all start the game together or that we can do coop regardless of where each of us is in terms of story and level?
