I'd probably sit out any coop sessions with
Shadow Warrior; I find that I don't particularly enjoy fast-paced shooters all that much (I remember a session of
Ratz Instagib that made me feel queasy and fidgety), and they don't have what I like best about coop.
Other than finishing
Tales from the Borderlands I haven't played much since Saturday's
Arma epic (and I joined another group for another couple of hours of
Arma that evening). However, I have been working on a simple yet deadly mission that I'd like to try out on the TTLG Armanauts. Since we're pretty good at friendly fire, this mission'll allow us to shoot each other *on purpose*! :ebil:

I wouldn't really categorise Shadow Warrior 2 strictly as a shooter to be honest. Jesh is right: it's more like first-person Diablo.
Yes, it can be
fast, but it's less about accuracy and more about ludicrous weapons.
For me, it gives me what Borderlands promised, but never quite delivered.
And it would be nice to have some variety now we've finished Satellite Reign.
Also, the movement system is joyously unrestricted. It's stupid fun just bouncing around the levels :)

If it's the movement in Ratz Instagib that was the issue, then you might not like Shadow Warrior 2 much. If it was the twitchy reflexes required, then that's not much of a problem in Shadow Warrior 2.
The reason I compared it to Diablo in first person was that Diablo already looks like absolute chaos from an isometric perspective, and this game is what I think that would look like as one of the characters. Enemies that shove you off, lots of "where did that damage come from?" moments, the entire screen obscured regularly by an enemy dying in lots of pieces and with lots of blood in your face. The guns sort of fall into the Borderlands trap of stat-based shooting making for mediocre gunplay (except the real whoppers like the sawn-off shotgun and grenade launchers), and there's way too many loot drops to sort out. At least there's only one of each weapon per player. And the melee is so much more satisfying than the guns. The skill upgrades are actually pretty neat, aiding your hacking and slashing nicely.
Yeah, the combination of fast movement and chaos isn't my thing in games. Games where you make a plan that then devolves into chaos, that's fine, but in
Ratz Instagib it was exactly the movement that put me off.
Not a problem, though, if the rest of you wants to go for it. Since so many coop games are for four players, I think it's only fair if some weeks someone else gets to be one of the four. I could get the game and try it out, but from what you guys have said I think I'd probably enjoy hanging out with you guys but the game itself wouldn't be my thing. (I am enjoying
Borderlands 2 with my wife, but I think that's mainly because it's easy to play with someone who isn't much of a gamer, and it appeals to her more psychotic side. It's a great sofa coop game, but I'm not sure I'd enjoy that sort of thing as much online.)
I'd just use that time to come up with utterly sadistic
Arma missions for us to play the next week. :ebil:

I'd echo what Malf said, SW2 feels like what Borderlands should have been... different strokes, perhaps? Anyway, I don't think I'd enjoy much of the slicing and dicing and groan-worthy quips in SP, but it's ludicrous enough and immediate enough -- despite repetitive maps -- to binge with company.
Also, sadistic Arma missions? I don't see how that changes the status quo. Bring it. :D

Since SW2 is on sale right now I could definitely be swayed into getting it. Does playing co-op games at different levels matter much? If I join your game as a level 1 wang will I have any fun?

Found (
http://steamcommunity.com/app/324800/discussions/0/152391995422765187/) this discussion on its forums about that. So it seems your greenhorn wang shouldn't suffer in damage output, though you will be missing out at the start on things like more base health, force push, easier health regen, that kind of thing. I don't know if later enemies give more EXP but even if not you'll always have a wang that can play with the big boys, though your wang won't be as skilled.

I've not played co-op at all yet, but it looks like a low level player playing with a high level one will level faster. A bit like "boosting" in Diablo 3.

Ah, good. Wang parity.
Thirith on 23/8/2017 at 14:02
... not sure whether I should be glad or jealous to miss out on the wangfest...

Just picked up Shadow Warrior 2! (which, coincidentally, became my 500th Steam game!)
How about we keep our SW2 session to some other timeslot than Saturday night tho? Keep that for Arma3 and whatever else.
Malf on 23/8/2017 at 14:50
Fine by me :)

Sure! I'm available tomorrow night, but I think Sulphur isn't. Maybe Sunday?
