Okay, I could write a long rant about how retarded the forced autocomplete is, but whatever, I'm through with it.
The problem is, any alternative I find, be it duckduckgo or even Google mirrors(from back when it wasn't trying to cure cancer) like Blackle don't have the image search. Image search is pretty important and I need it.

Forced autocomplete?
Search Settings->Do not provide query predictions in the search box [ x ]
Though I just access it straight from the browser search functionality, anyway; I rarely go to the actual site to type my query.

On a tangent, I don't really get the need to have dedicated search bars into the browsers. If I want a quick search I just type it into the address bar and if my ISP's DNS server can't find a URL in there it automatically does a Google search. If it finds a near match it takes me there directly, and if it doesn't it displays the Google results.

Yup that's how Chrome works and it's really great.
Anyway Koki, I'm sure you could take a few minutes to build yourself a simple web page with a regular textbox and a submit button which queries google to bring you directly to the result page. I honestly haven't found a better search engine, especially when it comes to images.

Following your tangent, built-in search bars are a waste of space, I rarely use it (though I never bothered to disable it, either).
Opera's address bar search beats everything else. Enter a short keyword into the address bar to specify which search engine, then put in the search string. e.g. "g palindrome" will search for palindromes on Google, "w palindrome" will look it up on Wikipedia, "gis palindrome" will search Google Images, etc.
I love it, and feel seriously inconvenienced whenever I use another browser, which invariably ends up dumbly searching google for the letter w whenever I try to search Wikipedia.

Now that's an idea.
Thanks guys.

Apparently Firefox finally stole/copied Opera's address bar search functionality, so there's nothing stopping everyone from using that system now. Found a tutorial explaining how to set it up (it's not complicated, works the exact same way as in Opera) :

Hm, convenient! Now if they just went ahead and also ripped off the multiple links front page thingie from Opera, that'd be excellent.
