I got TG to work on a new computer. Not the quad core I complained about earlier, but a new dual core machine I "built."
I replaced the mobo on my XP machine. I'm using my original IDE-HD and DVD drive. The CD-R/W drive had to be replaced with what is now a DVD-RAM drive (I'm not exactly sure what that means, but the tech salesman told me it will still burn CD's, so that's okay). Both the DVD and DVD-RAM are IDE drives so I bought a couple of IDE to ATA adapters. I connected them to my new mobo and no problems there.
Thanks to the faq's here on ttlg, I know how to get the videos and cutscenes to work. The problem is that I'm experiencing a crash at the introductory cutscene for the bonehoard. Up to that point (with all the fixes) the game worked fine.
I followed the faq's instructions for dual-core systems (using the task manager to get TG to run on only one processor) as well as the RegIndeo fix. And again, up until the Bonehoard intro clip, the game ran flawlessly.
One minor problem, actually. When I was escaping Cragscleft Prison, there was one "invinceable" guard. He could beat me, but neither arrow nor sword could beat him.
So there you have it. My two biggest problems with TG on my new dual-core machine.
Any help/advice? Thanks in advance!

I did a complete uninstall and then reinstall of TG. Same problem: The game crashes during the cutscene quotes leading into the Bonehoard.
Any ideas how to cure this?
Thx!

I'm just about to finish the Bonehoard when I realize.....there's no sound from the Horn of Quintus.
Hmmmm. A guard in Cragscleft which can't be killed but can kill me, the intro cutscene to the Bonehoard mission which causes the whole game to crash, and now no Horn of Quintus Sound.
Methinks there is some serious taffin' here.

When Farkus got killed by the two Assasins thinking Farkus was Garrett, they say something like 'yes, that was Garrett in the window." I didn't hear anything from them this time.
I am now convinced there is something wrong with my sound file/setup. Any thoughts?

I quit the game, shut-down my pc, restarted the game and my pc, and reloaded the level. Now I get sound from the horn of Quintus. Hmmmmm.....
Just as weird, sometimes when I go to the main menu, the mouse will get "stuck" in a particular area of the menu. It behaves as if there is a smaller box and I can't get it out of that area to hit continue, objectives, or something else like that.
Sometimes hitting Alt-Tab will work, or hitting the escape key works. But not always.
Still waiting for some input, here guys. I got a lot of views but no replies. Hook me up here, will ya? Please?

I just tried playing the intro Bonehoard movie (B04) in windows media player and guess what? It crashed! Could it be I have a bad TG disk? I also have TDP disks. Can copy B04 from the TDP into my TG directory?
Why are the Fates taffing with me?

I just tried playing the B04 movie on my wife's quad-core Vista machine and it crashed (when I switiched to my dual core, I left the TG install folder on her computer). I'm gonna try one more thing before I head to ebay to buy new TG Disks.

It seems that movie B04 was the culprit. I copied B04 from my TDP disk into my TG movie folder and noticed the following:
No more crashes
Sound from Horn of Quintus
Killed seemingly undefeatable guard in Cragscleft
No problems with mouse pointer stuck in upper left quadrant of TG main menu.
Who knew.

Just had the same problem with the same movie. Not sure if the Gold version worked in 2000, but mine definitely didn't work under WinXP. The Bonehoard intro movie would crash Thief, and Winamp when I tried it, at 40 seconds in - right when it says "who attacks and hammers saws their useless fleshes".
Copied the file from my Thief: TDP CD. Works fine now, both in Thief and Winamp.
Thanks for the tip!
