That video card is okay and I seriously doubt that upgrading it would sort out the sound issues.

Hmm. All of the download links on that page seem to be dead.....

The site was being really slow for me earlier today (had to download some realtek drivers for something else). Might be worth googling for another source ;)

Sweet, thanks. :thumb:

Realtek audio chips are not hardware DSPs. The chips themselves are actually about the size of your pinky finger's nail. The drivers emulate some "hardware" functionality, and do include EAX2, but it doesn't usually work quite right.
Realtek has drivers right on their web site that work with all of their codecs.
If your laptop has PCMCIA, you could buy a Creative Audigy 2 ZS Notebook and have a real audio chip. They are a bit expensive though. Newer laptops are starting to have the new ExpressCard thing though and there is no decent audio card for that yet.

I'd say a ZS is overkill for a laptop unless your really going for the whole DTR thing.
Whilst not the best, good ol' AC97/etc is usually more than ample for a laptop with it's rocking tinny stereo speakers :) And the performance increase isn't worth £100 or however much the ZS is...

Since I got my SB X-Fi Fatal1ty for $230, I very much doubt an Audigy 2 ZS costs that much.

Showoff!
But I get what you mean my XiFi Elite Pro was actually cheap :cheeky:
(now all I need is a SS2 7.1 patch and I can really creep myself out!)
The audio on most laptops is pants. I have an Acer Ferrari, the stats are cool but the audio just doesn't cut it.
If your serious about gaming on a laptop, an add on sound card is a good idea. Don't forget you can get some that run off usb rather than PCMCIA
