Many thanks to all here who have contributed to getting these games running again. I just got SS1 running and thought..hmmm..I wonder if I could do the same with TN, and here we are! I remember playing this when it first came out and being overwhelmed at the innovation - squad based combat with good AI - excellent use of 'sprite' technology - massive outdoor areas - etc.,etc. I also remember one reviewer at the time raving about the game's cut-scenes, saying they made the game into the best 'interactive movie' he'd ever seen. I would have to agree, TN has a good story and even if the acting is sometimes a bit wooden, the end result, with all the plot twists and turns is excellent stuff. I plan to produce some fan art in the near future, now I have my references back! :cheeky: Thanks again everyone.

Glad to see another Centauri old-timer back in action!
The whole live-action cut-scene business was very unfortunate in a lot of ways. I think it did horrible things to the game's budget (which of course was never recovered), the acting is frequently awful (although weirdly enough I've become somewhat fonder of it as the years have passed), and despite that reviewer's comments, it certainly doesn't seem to have had any beneficial effect on the sales (although I don't suppose it had a detrimental effect on sales either... the sales just didn't have much to do with the game's quality :/ ).
The movies do make the game better IMO, but probably not nearly enough to justify the cost of doing them. Ah well; benefits of hindsight and all.
It also irritates me how the script doesn't always mesh with the other sources of information. I remember one instance where you receive email from the commander requesting that you keep something to yourself for the moment, and upon leaving your quarters you view a cutscene in which one of the other characters implies clear knowledge of this supposed secret, referring to it as if it were widespread knowledge. They should have altered the email of course (being the easier option), but the chronological order of things makes it seem as if the cutsscene is 'at fault'. It didn't help to endear me to them when I first played the game :)
Looking forward to seeing your artwork!
