Another earthquake. This time in chile.

at 8.8 and only 120 people reported dead it really shows a gap in preparedness for these kinds of events when you look at haiti. 7.0 and over a quarter million dead, whereas here at 8.8 the only really big thing htat happened was one freeway that kind of fell apart, those pictures are unreal.

All you guys in Hawaii, P.I., the Marianas, and Samoa stay safe.

Might also have something to do with population, and where exactly the epicenter was:
Maule, Chile - 900K, 30 people/km²
Port-au-prince, Haiti - 4 million, 182 people/km²

But I don't doubt that construction standards might be a big part of it.

Edit: Reading more news about it, it seems Chile has pretty high seismic regulatory standards for construction since they have a long history of earthquakes (not surprising since they're on the Pacific ring.)
