Do I have to post pictures of my original Thief CD-ROMs for anyone to take my opinions seriously on this forum? Or does everyone automatically hate me for thinking most of the criticism I've read is nitpicky at best and nonsensical at worst?
I don't hate you. I simply dislike your assertion that we're all a bunch of nostalgia driven fire breathers, when the original platforms are still very much alive and actively developed. Look at the anonymously released NewDark Engine, the 1000+ and rising FM's, Thief 2X, Thievery, The Dark Mod. All examples of a community that can evolve and grow in new ways by strengthening and expanding the existing Thief gameplay framework.

On the topic of nostalgia, I love the original games, and despite only joining the site in 2005, I was a lurker well before that. I've played these games for years, and I've always tried to keep up with the latest and greatest things to come out of this community. I really do appreciate all of the work that people here have done on these games for the past several years.
I really enjoy T2X, Thievery, and TDM, but I don't really consider them to be any kind of evolution of the genre. They don't change the way the game is played in any significant way. That's why I'm excited to play a new game that takes a different approach to the series while keeping a lot of familiar elements.
I do wish people were more optimistic and less pessimistic towards the game. Sure, it might turn out to be not even half as good as the originals, but that doesn't make the originals any worse for wear. It can exist alongside them without being detrimental to them.
While it might not be everything you've ever hoped for in a Thief game, I'm relatively sure it will be a lot closer to the originals as far as stealth gameplay than any of its modern contemporaries are, which is also part of the reason I am excited for it.
Also, I want to apologize for my tone in my previous posts. I really don't intend to start a fight or be viewed as a troll or anything, I just wanted to express the fact that I don't agree with most of the arguments I've read, and the way I said it was a lot more hostile than I should have. :(

Wait, we're actually meant to
care about this ... this ... what's the name again? I just like to argue.

Does this mean then that you will not be providing links and will instead be recanting this bold and obviously uninformed blanket statement?

The response to this game in this community was atrociously negative before anyone knew even a single detail about the game other than that it would exist.

While I don't think it's wholly inaccurate to say that there was a lot of negativity before there was very much info, the way I said it in that single sentence isn't very accurate.

In hindsight, it proves to be the "even a single detail" part that keeps jumping out. Since you apparently know seemingly little about the illustrious history of Looking Glass Studios, the company that brought you the masterpiece Thief: The Dark Project, I will chalk it up to you merely having a bad day.
:)

I know a great deal about them, and own most of their games, a few even complete in box. :)

The moment someone tells me the reason I'm negative about the new game is because of nostalgia for the old games, I assume they're argument is invalid. How can I be nostalgic about something I replay frequently and have replayed less than three months ago?
The nostalgia argument holds no water unless you're actually sure the person you're accusing of nostalgia hasn't played the game in years.

I think the subject can be closed now.
I understand that it will be business as usual and podcasts and Take 5 Q&As will carry on as before while they are looking for a new CM. Eidos have finished their board upgrade and are back online.

Changing actors is something that happens nearly constantly, in animation, video games,
tv shows, and even movies. It's not worth trashing the game over, even if you don't agree with their reasoning.
Would you watch "House M.D." with Hugh Laurie replaced with somebody else right between the third and fourth seasons? The same with "The Sopranos" & James Gandolfini? "Breaking Bad" & Brian Cranston? I wouldn't.
