The vast majority of opinions I've seen on this forum have been incendiary towards the game for no reason other than it isn't the same as what they expected. No one seems to even believe slightly that there's even a slim chance they could ever enjoy the game. That is the mindset I completely don't understand.
You clearly fail to understand what people are actually saying here but feel free to dismiss all the criticism here as unreasonable hatred if it helps you to sleep better.
People here have gone to great lengths to explain why exactly they don't like a feature or even dislike it and debated it with people who thought otherwise. Coming in here and declaring: "You just don't like it because it's new and different" is ignorant prejudice at best.

People love RPG advancement
This is not personally aimed at the poster, but I noticed that most people who defend EM's vision point out the RPG advancement. Funny thing is... gamers have not agreeded yet on what is an RPG.

Doesn't seem to stop anybody from wanting RPG elements thrown in just about everywhere.

Does it still make sense to call them RPG elements?

Do I have to post pictures of my original Thief CD-ROMs for anyone to take my opinions seriously on this forum? Or does everyone automatically hate me for thinking most of the criticism I've read is nitpicky at best and nonsensical at worst?

Nobody said they hate you.
Shinrazero on 22/10/2013 at 00:28
No one hates you dude, some people just don't agree with you is all. We nitpick and debate and argue because we care about this series.
Chade on 22/10/2013 at 00:35
Wait, we're actually meant to care about this ... this ... what's the name again? I just like to argue.

People love RPG advancement, myself included. I don't see it as detrimental in the slightest. I don't think it ruins Garrett's character to have him be able to hone his skills in some way. Then again, I always preferred System Shock and Deus Ex to Thief, too. That is not to say that I didn't love the old Thief games, I just don't think a reboot should just be a retexturing of the original game. If you want that, just wait for the HD texture mod to release for Thief Gold and replay it.
I love Thief more than SS and DX partly because Thief doesn't have RPG advancement; you probably love SS/DX more than Thief because they *do* have RPG. I think the games should be kept separate and unique. If I want to play a game with RPG advancement I'll play SS and DX. If I want to play a game without RPG advancement, I'll play Thief.
If you want to play a game with RPG advancement, why not just play the franchises you like best, SS and DX?

Contextual jumping, leaning, and rope arrows are utterly miniscule issues in the larger scope of gameplay, and I don't really get why people are flipping out about them. How often do you find yourself hopping through the levels? Or leaning back and forth randomly while walking?
I find myself trying to get to places and climb things in Thief that either won't exist in the new game because of contextualization, or will be impossible to attempt because of sticky feet. That's a detriment, imo. There's even a situation in the first mission of Thief 2 where you pretty much either have to lean forward from stairs or jump from those stairs in order to reach some hidden loot. That situation can't exist in the new Thief. And the fact that it's not even possible to duplicate in the new game a simple event/level design situation that occurs in a 13 year old game because of restricted movement speaks volumes about contextualization. Add contextualized rope arrows and leaning to the equation and it just gets worse. I free-form lean all the time in Thief; and so do several gamers as witnessed in YouTube playthroughs I've watched of Thief. I don't usually do it while walking, though; but I do appreciate the freedom to do so.

See, exactly this dismissive attitude is why people don't take you seriously. You don't even try to argue the points, you just dismiss them. However, what's trivial stuff for you -- QTE's, XP progression, on the rails movement, action sequences, swooping -- for a number of us substantially change the gameplay and not for the better. And even if some of the stuff is nitpicking, so what? We are fans, we are allowed to.
If you need people to like it so badly, maybe you should seek validation elsewhere, for example at some of those numerous positive places that you keep talking about. Or maybe, instead of trying to belittle the TTLG community, try to contribute something worthwhile.
