I have never ran into such problems yet, but I'll keep this in mind in the future, seems like a better idea than risking file conflict issues.

Why was there a strings directory inside Res?
That is how ADaoB works. Apparently Straylight rather replaced all the string files.

So is there supposed to be a Strings directory inside RES or not? I figured because just extracting all the files into the root dir created the strings dir in res, it was supposed to be that way.. And Kolya's last post didn't exactly change my mind ;)

With a bit of experimentation, we worked out that SS2MM will actually sort this problem automatically, and install the files to \strings\ rather than \res\strings.
However, the files are in \res\strings\ in the ADaoB archive, so if someone tries to install the mod manually, without using the mod manager... well, I'm sure you get the picture.
Edit: Why are you installing mods manually anyway?

Unpack the archive and raise the "strings" folder one step in the file hierarchy.
So you would have an empty "res" folder (you can delete it) and a "strings" folder next to the MIS files. Copy all that to your SS2 directory.
When SBF is back up a fixed version will be available.

Then where would all my CRF files be at? The root dir? Wouldn't that reverse the whole mod-ready thing?

He meant an empty Res directory inside the mod, not inside your SS2 folder.

Right -- a new complaint. The spiral staircase area (if you remember that) in the "Where Am I?" level is too dark using the "new" levels in this mod. Had to replace it with the original MIS file to make it playable.

Don't you circa remember where the "steps" are? It helps.

Here's a real awkward one.
Loved the game originally, played it through on co-op with my g/f, superb gaming experience.
Saw recently about all the mods so decided to replay it. Only had one copy of the game so I bought another from ebay.
Set it up on both machines, patched for multiplayer then patched for XP. Ran both games to make sure everything was working fine.
I then sat down and very carefully, step by step, installed straylight on the 2 games. Obviously nothings certain but I'm prety sure I did it correctly. Neither game will work now and each has a different problem.
Machine 1: I get an error saying SS2 needs 32M of disk space and I only have 15M, I actually have about 57G free but I'm guessing this is related to the old dos limit on hard discs, no idea why it would suddenly happen.
Machine2: As soon as I click on 'Play' it just crashes with the old 'Send/Don't send' windows error.
It's a bit of a bugger, I was hugely looking forward to this.
Any ideas/pointers would be greatly appreciated.
