Yes, of course.

Sangman, just download version 2.2 please?
Kolya on 18/3/2007 at 17:46
You should use version 2.2 at the moment, because the other isn't tested yet and you don't seem like you wanted to test a mod but just use it, right?
It would make it a lot easier to determine what your problem is/was.

Well like I said, removing the res/strings directory and going back to the original SSHOCK2.GAM (I believe it's called that) fixed it, you figure it out from there ;)
Anyhoo I'll download the other version then and see if that works.. When it's back up :o

I most certainly did make it mod ready. At least, mod ready means moving all the CRF files to a res directory, and extracting all the files in patch CRF files and adding them to the corresponding CRF files, right? So, in that case, I did.
edit: checking your link, yeah. I did make sure to check everything, if it'd be something I overlooked I would've found it and would not be posting about it here.
In other words - My problem can pretty much be taken as a bug report. ;)

Managed to fix it ;) Seemed to have been caused by the Straylight mod. Removing the
res\Strings directory and replacing it's GAM file with the original fixed it.
Why was there a strings directory inside Res?
Folders from mods are supposed to be extracted to the root of the SS2 dir, not into the res folder. If a 'strings' folder exists inside the res folder, then the game will completely ignore the entire strings.crf file. The same is true for any other resource folder / .crf combination.
You are using the mod manager, right?

Making the game mod ready involved patching, moving CRFs to the res folder and editing the install.cfg, I had never heard of the extracting routine before.

Merging the crfs isn't mandatory, but it's still a good idea. Otherwise you can run into trouble with the files from the patch overriding those from the mod.
