Hey, a fellow hacker! You're right on the compression front, at least ... let's see, there's Underworld bitmaps, Underworld strings, UWII levels, System Shock bitmaps, System Shock packed resources ... dammit, PICK ONE YOU LIKE AND STICK WITH IT!
*ahem* Anyway, keep up the good work, you seem to be well ahead of me. Of course I'm interested in any info, and I expect Telemachos is likewise ... I'm trying to compile an unofficial specs document but it isn't at a very advanced stage yet.
Re 3D models: I was afraid they might be in the exe, I searched in vain for them in the resource files. Whereabouts? I might have a shufti at them myself.

Don't forget that underworld bitmaps can be encoded about 5 different ways

Yeah - it took me ages before I found them. In my executable they are between approximately 54BE0 and 5B264. I've had a look at the unofficial system shock specs and there appear to be certain simularities in terms of the command orientated nature of the data. The simplest example is the special tmap object (used for wall decals) which starts at offset 5B20E. (This was fairly easy to isolate as the previous entry defines the 3D shape for switches and levers.
I'll give more details if required, but I feel this may be getting too technical for this thread.

I thought they might be. Thanks for that, I'll take a look at them myself sometime.

Well, maybe you're right. It's not exactly off-topic, but ... anyway, you have my email address. Thanks for the info.
