Could someone plz help me out there as I just cannot seem to figure out how a candle is lit and put out. I bought a few lanterns and candles from a trader so that I could illuminate my stronghold to give it the personal touch only to find that most of them are not lit when I place them down. Only 3 of 8 had a flame and the rest just sit there laughing at me because they know I can do shite all about it. I thought the use button (default left mouse button) would light them but no.
Anyone know the answer to this little gem. I would be very chuffed to know. Cheers.:thumb:

Hmm.. I've only used a few fire-based illumination sources, but I always ignited 'em by equipping them (ie: dragging them onto the character portrait). On the other hand, I suspect the lamps/etc. will burn out by the next time you get back, so you might want to follow up oRGy's suggestion.

I'm not sure that candles, lanterns, etcetera burn out when they're just sitting down. I think it's only when you're carrying them that they burn out. After all, you don't see frobbable candles burning out in NPCs' houses in the world, do you?
But yes, equipping them should light them. :)

cheers for the info but I tried equipping them then dropping them down and still no joy. Looks like they will just have to stay like that because I can't be arsed to load up the editor for a few candles:)

Ok if you grab them lit, they will be lighted when you place them down, but if you get them when they are unlit, they will stay that way when you place them down, just go around looking for some lit ones, no probs there :thumb: , and candles/lanterns do not go out if there just siting there:D

I grabbed one candle in Balmora and took it outside. A day later it was still burning.

I like using the lanterns and candles to dress up me pad (colored lights, yeah), as well as to mark an area, or leave "bread crumbs" behind as I explore a dungeon. Btw, torches are the only light source I know of that will "burn down." When equipped, a torch only lasts so long. When you put it down, it's not lit. Etc.

I nicked a paper lantern from somewhere in Balmora and left it out on a path marking the way to Caius' house, so I could remember the way back early in the game. I must've put it there about 20 game days ago, nobody's picked it up, it's remained where I left it, survived countless showers and storms... And it's still alight!
