You realize that (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dog) dogs have only been domesticated for the last 15000 years? They hunt other animals and eat them. At least that's what's in their DNA makeup. Sure, we've been taking care of them and providing their food.
This is the way of life and death of the planet. I realize it's a bit ugly for a human to see a domesticated dog to tear up an animal. Turn on Animal Planet, and maybe you'll see lions eating a wildebeast or something. You may even see a special on the wild dogs of Africa. They hunt in packs similar to how lions do, and they kill their food.
I'm an animal lover and don't like to see any animal die, but you've got to realize that a dog is still wild in many ways.

A day late and a dollar short, but why did you not call the Cops or the feds.
Egrets are a protected species, and they would have had a hard time with explaining why they let the dog kill it. And they at least would have gotten a warning, if not a substancial fine.

Yeah but no-one's saying it's the dog's fault. It's the irresponsible owner letting it out in the first place. Dogs will be dogs, but it's the responsibility of dog owners to ensure their dogs don't get the chance to act like that.

I remember there was this day when I was a kid, I was out on the terrace, there was the most beautiful sunset you had ever seen, the sky touched orange and gold, the fading light like syrup running slowly along your fingers as you put your hand up against the sun. The smell of Christmas baking wafted over from the kitchen, my dog scratched lazily at his one ever-floppy ear beside me, and a gentle breeze feathered through the branches of the coconut trees around.
It was at this point that our cat chose to drag a live crow through the kitchen and deposit it in front of my mom, as if to say 'here, look what I got for you'. The resulting shrieks from both my mom and the cook were enough to make the cat bolt through the window, just before my dog ran in to bark at the flailing, broken thing flapping on the floor.
On the bright side, later that night, we had the best Christmas dinner ever. Ah, memories.

That is, in fact, what it was saying. Cats (maybe dogs, too, but I've never heard of one doing it) have this thing for catching animals and bringing them to their owners as gifts. We used to have a cat when we lived in a more rural section of the country, and it would leave dead mice on our threshold occasionally. Once, it even worked its way into the house (it was strictly an outdoor cat) and deposited a dead mouse under our computer desk. Fun stuff.
It's odd that the crow was still alive, though. From what I understand, they would normally kill the animal first.

This is why you all need English Bulldogs. Mine loves to chase birds and squirrels, but is comically slow and uncoordinated so he can't catch shit.

I've got to admit I can't exactly see why you consider "Thiefsie Fool minus the charm" to be an internet persona worth pursuing.

I always congratulate my cat when she brings me "gifts".

http://www.ttlg.com/forums/images/icons/icon17.gif Usually dead rodents, but we had the occasional bird on some lucky days.
Sometimes she brings a live mouse inside to play with (ooh, blood on the floor, how cute) then it's hard to take her away from it but it can usually be freed without too much hassle. Just pretend to play along until you get to catch it and then release it in the garden while she's not looking ;)
