Seems like you haven't provided a full path to your Thief exe file.
Open Settings in AngelLoader, open Paths section and provide full path to your Thief 1 or/and Thief 2 exe file in "Paths to game executables" section.
It should be like:
D:\Some\Path\Thief Gold\THIEF.EXE
or
D:\Some\Path\Thief 2 - The Metal Age\Thief2.exe
Hi - I have done this. It's a steam installation of Thief Gold so the path is Programs~64\Steam\Steamapps\Common\Thief Gold\Thief.exe
but I get the message: angelloader v1.7.8 game executable not found
I've tried the various fixes found online and on the Steams forum but can't get it to work. I did notice in the angeelloder that Thief 1, Thief 2 and Thief The dark project are the programs available, no reference to thief gold, so I renamed the gam folder from thief gold to thief 1, no luck as now steam cannot launch the game, put it back to original.
I cannot find a solution. But it does seem to be a common issue. Let me know, thanks!

Thanks, that makes a lot more sense! I'm afraid there's a new problem, though. I've got my list of FMs showing up on the main Angelloader page now, but when I try to install or run one I get an error message saying "Game executable file not specified or not found. Unable to install FM." Any idea what to do in this case?
Sorry about that reply, replied to the wrong post.

Long story short, you need to move your game out of Program Files and put it somewhere else (you should be able to add another app folder in Steam and tell it to put apps in there). Program Files is a protected folder and AngelLoader may not be able to write to it, or other problems may occur.
Also, the reason for the specific error you're getting is that Program Files (the 64-bit version) is not accessible by AngelLoader because it's a 32-bit app. It's probably seeing "Program Files\Steam" and interpreting it as "Program Files (x86)\Steam".
Perhaps I should have it detect this situation and display a more specific error message about this.
I could also switch the app to 64-bit. It's 32-bit for historical reasons and I just never switched it over because I didn't know of any issues so I just left it.

I'm working on improving the error detection for folders, and I'm just wanting to know, what exactly is "Programs~64"? Do you mean the path was "C:\Program Files\Steam\Steamapps\Common\Thief Gold\Thief.exe" or do you mean it was literally "Programs~64\Steam\Steamapps\Common\Thief Gold\Thief.exe"? Because I don't recognize the form "Programs~64" and a path shouldn't be starting that way in any case. Just want to make sure I understand.

I don't know if it's a bug (or at least certainly not a big deal) but when I browse the FM list (I now have 350 of 'em! Help!) then select Full Screen for the bottom info/readme panel, then go back to normal view, the browser jumps to the top of the list and I lose where I had a certain FM highlighted. Like I said, definitely not a critical issue and AngelLoader is an excellent organizer/launcher. I'm looking forward to when the GUI supports high contrast dark mode themes with perhaps different colored fonts for different states, say, red or green for when an FM is finished . I'm a real nut for high contrast colorful frontends and dark themes in which the colors really pop. An example is my hardware monitoring program where I went wild with the customization.
