Why? Let me post what I posted at my main forum:
"You shouldn't be saying "YES!", because clearly the people that made the originals have disappeared completely. Warren Spector is with some other games company.
Basically they're giving this huge franchise to some team who haven't been involved with Thief, System Shock or Deus Ex. LAME.
This is what happened with Championship Manager 5 and above. The team that made CM4 left to form a new studio away from Eidos, and named their game Football Manager. But Eidos continued to make CM5 (they still had rights to the name) with a new team who ended up making a really shit game that didn't live up to the previous games in the series.
Eidos suck donkey balls."

I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. They had a bunch of the old guard on for Invisible War and it wasn't a magic bullet, and we don't even know who'll be on the team yet anyway.
Does nationality really make much of a difference? Do Bioware or Ubisoft Montreal's games seem Canadian in any meaningful way?

Even just aiming high is an improvement, really. If somebody wants to make the next Deus Ex, I'd rather them try that than try to make the next Doom.

Allow me to repeat: "Even just aiming high is an improvement, really. If somebody wants to make the next Deus Ex, I'd rather them try that than try to make the next Doom."
Circles. Just circles...

As long as they are releasing a sdk with the game, I don't care who's is making it.

I don't think anybody established wants to touch the DX franchise, after already being chastened with it the last time, and I wouldn't blame them. We probably wouldn't be getting this announcement if a team like this weren't taking up the challenge.
But in any event, completely aside from that observation, I say let the new guard have their shot at it. It's still Eidos, so we're not talking about complete amateurs here; there's no doubt they'll be competent. They won't be bearing under the weight of too much pressure because the last one flopped. In fact, their "outsider" status actually helps deflect a lot of the not-another-DXIW worry. It's more an asset than a liability in that regard; they're untainted by DXIW. And because it flopped, they can only rise to the challenge. If their starting point is in the gutter, there's no way but up to go. And what a way for a new team to inaugurate itself. This is their chance to put a real mark on the gaming world right off the bat (as I'm sure they're itching to do), so I'm sure they'll give the project the kind of care and respect it deserves.
And, on that note, as an inaugural project, I can only expect the team will have a special pride in this project, as teams are wont to have for their first project together, to say nothing of one with this kind of lineage. I mean, did you see in the interview when the president mentioned Deus Ex, even if you don't speak French you can see the sort of beaming pride he said it with, like he couldn't wait to announce it, and the way the interviewer's eyes lit up and this smile cracked on his face, he couldn't help. This is exciting news, and they both recognized it. And I have a gut feeling this upstart team will get caught up in the excitement, unlike the example you (Stardog) mentioned, which doesn't really fit this kind of mold, IMO.
I want to see what they can come up with. Obviously sticking with the "established" team in the past wasn't all the magic it was supposed to be. Let the torch pass, and let's see if these guys can stir up some of their own magic for their first project. This is my gut feeling as this thing gets started.

That's the dumbest shit I've heard all day.

I definately am interested. I think it's better that a new development team's doing this because then they'll have more fresh ideas. It seems like the longer a development team's around, the worse their games get (not to the point to make them bad or anything for the most part, but yea).
I really hope that Deus Ex 3 will rule, too bad it will be at least a few years wait. And we'll have project HDTP to hold us over (which is supposedly almost done!).

Not all situations are equal. This team could do a fantastic job. It's not as if Ion Storm knocked Thief and Deus EX out of the ballpark...that they certainly didn't. I would say that this team has about as much of a chance as Ion Storm did to make a great game. If they do their jobs well, we will finally have a proper sequel to the original.
