That's interesting. It's like the end of Lawnmower Man.
The hero thinks he's stopped the bad guy/AI from infecting the planet, but the very end the movie lets you know that he got through anyway, and then it ends. It can work for a bang-up finale ... although it's subversive.

It was a fun game. The only problem I had with it was that it felt to me like they'd had a checklist and had to get everything on that list into the game. I'm thinking mainly of the vehicles.
In some ways I liked it more than IW- it wasn't pretending to be something it wasn't.
Same impression here. It was like playing Serious Sam with augs but I had no problem with that. It wasn't pretending to be a Deus Ex game and SS was fairly fun.

you can't make Shodan fail 3 times and still regard her as arch villain. It would demolish any credibility she still has...
But she doesn't necessarily fail in either of the first two games. She had contingency plans for when her primary goals were thwarted (a weak argument, I know). Personally, I'm of the opinion that SS3 should not be attempted.
I also cannot see how anyone can really
really be excited about this "DX3" announcement. IW did a great job of demolishing the DX storyline, and as was said before, made it nearly impossible to have a credible continuation of the series. I think the idea of having a "true" sequal to the original (transpiring shortly after it's ending) is the best idea. Basically forget about IW and let the devs create a new take on the dx universe. I don't think a prequel would work so well. One of the good things in DX was the ambiguity of how things came to be. Having a prequel would merely spoil that.
If the people at Eidos really want to have any credibility when claiming to bring the series back, one thing needs to happen: reincorporate the RPG elements of the first one.
If that happens,
then I'll be very excited about the prospect of a new DX game.

I guess it's like the excitement of meeting a girl (or a guy) for the first time, after chatting with her for several months. We're excited about it, we hope she's as gorgeous as we imagined her, although, deep down, we know she's probably "average" at best and we know we'll be disappointed. But we're still excited !

I don't know about others, but personally I'm excited because I know that Eidos won't face the same obstacles as the IS devs did with IW - that is to say, it'll probably be multi-platform, but since the 360 and PS3 (or just either one) are powerful enough to *at the very least* effortlessly render large scenery, which would hopefully bring back the large superhubs we've come to know and love about DX1, and this opens up a whole new can of possibilities in terms of narrative and nonlinearity/freedom of choice.
Of course, *probably*being multi-platform also brings with it the dreaded streamlining or dumbing down (as most fans experienced it). Oblivion showed that a relatively complex RPG and inventory system is possible on consoles, so here's hoping they either dig up a polished version of the system in the original, or that they develop two version; one for PC, one for console(s).
All we can do at the moment is wait for confirmation however, I just hope they're not going to drop this project like a brick, that'd be the biggest letdown in (PC) gaming in years

Yeah, they'll get scrutiny if they start this project, but they'll get a living hell if they back down, I bet ... just from the let down after stoking so many people's expectations.

When did it "demolish" it? The storyline continued perfectly...

Multiple interviews have proven that streamlining IW was
not to do with consoles, so stop saying it.

I think you should at least read the end of the sentence polytourist97 wrote before posting a comment. Here's what you (perhaps conveniently) didn't quote : "[IW storyline] made it nearly impossible to have a credible continuation of the series."
Now... Do you understand what he meant by "demolishing the DX storyline" ? Do you understand why your "The storyline continued perfectly" was beside the point ? (BTW, I don't agree at all with your "perfectly", but that's also beside the point.)

Yes, and we all know everything said in an interview is the whole truth and nothing but the truth. We all know there is no marketing bullshit whatsoever in interviews. We all know a developer won't hesitate to jeopardize his career to answer truthfully to an interview.
Here's one thing I believe. There's a reason why some people will pay $2000 for a gaming computer instead of $400 for a console. Do you know what it is ? Can you infer how this may have an impact on game design ?
