This monster flick rated 92% on Rotten Tomatoes. Got all manner of glowing reviews.
I thought it was painfully bad, the "acting" amateurish and overwrought. The monster was the only good thing and it wasn't particularly scary.
The trailer paints it as a sophisticated and dark horror film but it breaks into slapstick with no justification, complete with comedic soundtrack, as the beast rends vacationers limb from limb. OLOL
WTF?

Yeah I quite liked it. It was pretty different, no? Family-horro-drama and all that.

Not sure about 92% but I enjoyed the movie. Although I got the feeling that much of the humour was lost in translation.

Yeah it was different and I usually like different - especially different from Hollywood. To me, this film could give up a half hour or more to judicious editing and come out looking better and telling a better story.
The breast-beating, screeching emotional displays that read like highschool drama exercises don't help. Plus, I prefer my socio-political messages marinated in ambiguity.
I've had the same problem with other Korean films, like Lady Vengeance. The whole esthetic just seems juvenile and heavy handed.
