Sulpher captured my thinking. I tried to come up with a story, but they all seemed way too obvious. But I'll try again with a serious one of one of my favorite games.
"Our protagonist gets by in the city, even prospers, largely by serving as a mule for everything from drugs to computer parts, but he really wants to get the hell out. It's been cut off & is run by 2 warring factions, each of which owns half the city with a neutral hub, you can ally with or stay independent of. Nobody can escape the city. But one day some outsiders come in & take over a quarter. You start working with a freedom fighter mechanic to use this to your advantage & see if they can help you out. Some investigation reveals the dark secret that the newcomers are trading with the factions for bodies, from the prisons and such, to convert their brains or dna into some supercomputer or something, it's not even that important. You finally crack open their dark secret which sets off a chain reaction where the factions self-destruct and the city burns from the scandal and the outsiders decide it's time to go (coincidently just in time as their secret tech has reached the stage it enables them to finally leave the city), and you find a way to surruptitiously hitch a ride with them and get the hell out of Dodge before the whole place mercifully obliterates itself into ashes to the tune of a sad but sweet French aria."

I have a feeling that one isn't widely known so maybe I shouldn't spoil it right away, but that sounds a lot like my fragmented memory of Hardwar: The Future Is Greedy! GOG should really get on that.

Sounds about right to me, too. Never did give it a proper go, but at this point Atlas has nothing on the weight of the backlog upon my shoulders.

Just a reminder - it's supposed to be first person ;)

Well technically my game was first person from the pov of the guy in the cockpit, ;) but if you want him/her to walk around I'll keep it in mind. Probably good you told me as my next idea was Crimson Skies. (And yes, you got it reizak.)

Ok, here's one. You've had bad luck at work lately and need to pay off a big debt, so it's good news when a weird guy hires you & your sidekick to help him find a McGuffin. You do, but it gets stolen, but nevermind because then you travel to a scientist that's been studying it. Unfortunately one of the experiments goes bad and the place blows up, so you hit the road again but run out of gas until you finally get help from some local politicians. You get back home, meet an old flame, regroup, and take off for McGuffin-Land where everything should be answered. Along the way you get in some trouble, the politicians help out again by carrying you off to their home turf & you meet a strongman there that tags along. Finally you make it to McGuffin-land, figure out how McGuffins really work in the library, and then it turns out, of course, the guy who hired you was the bad guy all along, and you've just helped him figure out how to rule the world with the McGuffin. So then you have to confront him, which actually doesn't really happen. Roll Credits.
