It reminds me a bit of the introduction of broadband to australia. Telstra (the main telco and ISP) wouldn't have a bar of it, on the basis that no one here "wanted" it (Much to the disbelief of anyone who'd tried to download more then a 1mb file over dial-up).
Then the americans moved in and started setting up DSL everywhere, and Telstra rushed to catch up.
Methinks EA has seen the hype around Bioshock. It's not just this forum that's interested in that game.

Of course . . . all the buzz surrounding Bioshock is shaming EA big time.
They could have given Irrational a crack at a third System Shock, but chose not to. Now that Irrational is suddenly making them look like the morons that they are, someone there finally woke up and said "we have to get a piece of the action somehow, and cash in". So *now* they're suddenly interested in making a SS3. :p

What I predict:
They'll try to make SHODAN "sexy". They won't have Terri Brosius doing the voice. They won't have Eric on the sound design.
Oh yeah, and 10 months development time (and that's if we're lucky).
We don't know any of that. How many here heard of Irrational before SS2? I am keeping an open mind and hoping for the best.

You may be damn right about that... when I was younger, SHODAN in SS1 was really scary. When playing it now, well, it's not anymore, but it still adds greatly to the atmosphere.
In SS2, SHODAN was
a lot less "intimidating", it was more like any other voice mail from any crew member.
The atmosphere in SS2 is great, and it is a very thrilling game, but that's only because of the normal monsters, the level design, and the sounds, most of all. But unfortunately
not because of SHODAN anymore.
If that development continues, SHODAN will only be a bad joke in SS3.
If SHODAN is not scary ("face", "voice" and texts), doesn't want to kill you all the time, doesn't make fun of your human existance, doesn't set up traps for you, and so on, it's simply not SHODAN any more.
I really hope they make SHODAN like in SS1 and remember that the game is supposed to be a thrilling horror action adventure, and not "yet another 3D shooter with 95% effort in graphics and 5% in gameplay".

That may be because she seemed as if she was trying to help you until the end.

Agreed.

Yes, mostly because of that. "SHODAN" and "offering help" or "requiring help" does not belong together. ;)

System Shock 3 should contain what it has in SS1 and SS2 that most other games seem to lack... PLOT!:thumb:
I've played a lot of different games and over the years I've noticed that a seldom few possess plot while the rest is all about admiring the graphics. In some cases this can be a good thing but never in an RPG. It's like producing a remake of a really popular TV series only focussing so much on make-up, designer clothes and model-like looks that you forget to add a frigging PLOT!:nono:
I am all for SS3, more than all for it, jumping up and down on my chair until the springs give out and then some all for it!:thumb:
I suppose there is one other thing that could be added: While keeping the whole story element set in space (obviously) SHODAN should return to her more maniacle ways. I'm talking scare your pants off in ways not akin to the Hollywood Bums On Seats horror that works once(maybe) and never again. I'm talking the kind that makes you wonder when she's serious(usually) and when she's just messing with you(which is a rarity).
Overall, I'm talking about Sci-Fi storyline meets utlimate supervillain(who could arguably be considered not a villain at all but a victim of someone's careless hacking:sly: )
Ah yes, this is the most important part of all, do not make her into a seductive character! SHODAN's voice and facial appearance may be female but the AI is non-gender specific with simple tastes: Total Domination Over Any And All Will Suffice!:cheeky:
Alright, I've said my part, let SS3 come to light and SHODAN be reborn!:thumb:

I can only hope it comes to the Xbox360 bundled with ss1 / ss2 as a bonus. Then I can use part three as a coster for my Jim Beam and coke while I replay parts one and two.
