I recently reinstalled my copy of SS2, which is already patched to 2.3. I tried the widescreen mod, followed the instructions, but got an "error" saying it couldn't find SS2 on my system. I checked the forums and found that it's better to just run SS2 Tool, which will install the widescreen mod and a bunch of bug fixes. I deleted the files that the standalone widescreen mod had extracted in to my Sshock2 folder, then ran the SS2 tools. Everything went fine there. The game was running in 1680x1050 and I wasn't crashing within seconds from my quad core. I've played through the first area and just got the power cell recharged to get in to the second section of med/sci, but every time I try going through the bulk head I get "System shock 2 has encountered an error and needs to close". I've tried going through this bulkhead from multiple saved games but I still get the error each time. I'm not sure what to do, since SS2 Tools has already fixed the multi core CPU problem, added safe_texture_manager, and all that other stuff... any ideas?
I'm running a Q6600, an ATI HD4850, and 4 gigs of RAM. I did a full SS2 install. Thanks in advance.

Yep, I didn't think that installing and deleting a widescreen mod could corrupt an entire level, but I guess it did. I moved my saved games to another folder, deleted my Sshock2 folder, reinstalled the game, and only ran SS2 Tools. I can go through to the next level just fine now. Just a heads up to anyone maybe having the same problem, it's an easy fix!

Well I guess I spoke too soon. The second area of med/sci loaded just fine last night, but when I tried it today, I'm getting the same "System Shock 2 has encountered an error and needs to close" problem. :( Any other possible fixes for this?
EDIT: If I uninstall everything, reinstall everything, patch it all up with SS2 tools and start the game once, I'm fine as far as changing levels without crashing. However, if I exit the game after changing levels, start the game up again, and try to change levels again, I always crash. I also noticed that on my second time through starting up SS2 (where the game will crash when I change levels), the "accessing" text on the loading screen comes up as pink, like a graphics error, but it only does it on the second time through, which is the only time that the game crashes. This is really weird, anyone have any idea what's going on?

Well, looks like I finally figured it out, but it took a longgggg time. After trying every possible combination of different installs, patches, bug fixes, the one thing that finally works for me is a standard full install (my CD is an EA's "classic" so it's already patched up) followed by running only the bug fixes option in SS2 tools. I'm stuck at 1024x768, but it still looks fine to me. And best of all, I don't get an error every time I go through a bulkhead or every five minutes!
