Re-do it, drop that "accent" (or just get an older British actor to do it), get rid of the anachronistic language and it might be okay.
Just replace the audio with the "Garrett Rap" that someone on the TDS dev team made a few years ago.

I never heard that ZB. Got a link?

The young intelligent gamer of today will surely see right through this, much like I passed on the cavalcade of fluff in my day.
I protest, your honour.
I move to strike from the record. It is the prosecution's opinion that at no point in his life was GD ever young and intelligent.

I just had a chance to listen to the English version without having a YT account and noticed...it actually sounds better in German. :p Less over-the-top-dirty, a bit less dramatic (but still vivid enough for a voice over) and aside from the slightly forced steal-its-life-back line also not too bad for the new Basso. Sorry, NuBasso. Unfortunately, "taffer" once more doesn't get a proper translation (however, this is like with the previous games), if something like that can be done in the first place.

For the longest time, I thought it was slang for a naughty word--but then we'd have to write, "t****r".

I actually didn't hate it. I really liked the visual art style and the idea of seeing Garrett through the eyes of other NPCs.
And I loved the improved music, more Thief and less wubwub.
That said, the voicework still hurts me. The actors are chewing the hell out of the scenery and I just don't understand why they all have to try to sound various shades of yank.

Yeah, the animation and the style are okay. Except Garrett at the end, who looks ridiculous. I know it's not Garrett Garrett but NuGarrett but I just don't like it. Original Garrett was so much cooler. He wouldn't pose like that and you certainly wouldn't see his face. I was prepared to accept his new outfit, his new look, but couple it with preening and ugh.
And on second listen it's even worse. The City watch has the the city "by the balls"?
Get out.
Re-do it, drop that "accent" (or just get an older British actor to do it), get rid of the anachronistic language and it might be okay.
Exactly this. Like others have said, I agree that it seems they are trying way too hard. I think what I hate most about nuGarrett is that he no longer seems really vulnerable. In the previous games, he can and did fumble and fail. I think this is an important aspect that is going to be absent in Thi4f's Garrett.

If it weren't for his extreme vulnerability with respect to guardsmen, I'd agree. But you are right, a more sober approach wouldn't hurt.

Oh I have seen it. I love it!
Yeah ZB, someone should cut that in!

Brentalfloss was a TDS dev? He says he is just a "longtime fan of the Thief series". Plus, 2012 isn't a few years ago. I think ZB referred to something different.
