Sad to play a 15 mission campaign now with the Basso prophecies. Stealing anything /= stealing back the life in the city.
henke on 3/11/2013 at 08:32
That was terrible. Hopefully it's only the product of some outside advertising agency who was hired to whip up these "stories", because neither the writing nor the tone of the other trailers have been this bad.
What? Did you only read the headline or something? They clearly didn't like it.
edit: found this gem in the comments-section: "Might be a decent Thief game after all. I already feel robbed." :laff:

So, what, you like the trailer? Enjoy the writing style, the art direction, the use of the word taffer, and everything in-between?
I'd be interested to know what you think of it instead of hearing you criticize my criticism.
Nah, it's poor all around. There isn't a single thing I liked about it. Not one. But the worst thing is the writing - they've got some real amateurs on this. It's like a highschool fan fiction attempt by the most awkward kid in class.
I agree with henke; the other stuff hadn't had writing this bad.
Your criticism was still hyperbole of the taffing first degree.

And oh god that accent, like something straight out of Goodfellas.
Thanks for saving me some time, were trying to remember that movie, more like the source of my irritation after watching the video. Thinking about it, makes sense, instead of trying to promote a "medieval thief", could be a lot easier to boost anything with "mafia-reference" in it, even it is subtle.
Grand-theft-day-port. Free-form stealing.
Could be intentional.

Yes, obviously the entire point of releasing this big budget product is just to insult the people of this relatively small community. This makes perfect sense.
Sir, please don't misrepresent my conspiracy theory.

I think that EM knows this game is going to be a flop and they are just taking parting shots at us with this stuff.
The implication was that the parting shots started
after they realized the game was not working out.
Chade on 3/11/2013 at 11:38
EM is not mocking us. Anyone who really believes they might be and isn't just letting off steam is crazy.
You know, this video really could have been quite nice. A nice throwback to the old 2D style. A bit of hopefully interesting information about Basso and the city. It wouldn't have taken much to make me happy. They just spoil it with this ridiculous insistence on packing every single damn moment to the brim with drama and crowding out all the content.
Hook me with content, not sensory overload! Don't treat every single transition as an opportunity to throw effects at me. Slow down a bit, give me some history, give me a bit of real information about Basso and where he comes from, make him more then a few slogans and a bucketfull of attitude. Make his goals for Garrett a bit less grandiose, a bit less dramatic, and a bit more personal. Just tone eveyrthing down a little bit, and pretty much every cinematic trailer we've seen would be 10x better. Especially this one.

If it's on mute I can appreciate it. The animation style is a nice kind of throwback cool.
Something about Garrett's posture rubs me the wrong way though.
SubJeff on 3/11/2013 at 14:37
Yeah, the animation and the style are okay. Except Garrett at the end, who looks ridiculous. I know it's not Garrett Garrett but NuGarrett but I just don't like it. Original Garrett was so much cooler. He wouldn't pose like that and you certainly wouldn't see his face. I was prepared to accept his new outfit, his new look, but couple it with preening and ugh.
And on second listen it's even worse. The City watch has the the city "by the balls"?
Get out.
Re-do it, drop that "accent" (or just get an older British actor to do it), get rid of the anachronistic language and it might be okay.

The young intelligent gamer of today will surely see right through this, much like I passed on the cavalcade of fluff in my day.
