Here we go...
Thief - Stories from The City - Part 1 - "Basso's Gamble"

:laff:...You've got to be kidding me.
This is supposed to be THIEF?...Why EM?...Why do you torment the community with such blasphemy?

I think the whole "Why stay stuck in the past" quote speaks for itself.
Things like reintroducing taffer in this trailer is just fan-service in a pretty half-assed attempt to make old thief fans warm up to it.

The voice acting we have witnessed thus far is some of the *worst* my ears have ever endured. So far, NuGarrett and now NuBasso apparently sound like some sort of mockingly half-assed impression of Stephen Russell. What a joke. I really thought this latest video was a joke at first, and got a few decent laughs out of it, until I realized it was in fact real.

Yeah, pretty bad. Why is Basso voiced by Tough guy #1 and why is he so crass now? That whole monologue was bad. Personally, I'm a pretty paranoid person. I think that EM knows this game is going to be a flop and they are just taking parting shots at us with this stuff. Taking a big dump on our favorite franchise because we've given them a hard time since day one.
Specter on 2/11/2013 at 04:14
While I am in agreement that this is poorly done, I think we should be a little careful about criticizing EM for adding something they said they would not. Even if what they have made is ridiculous, the fact that they are now making changes that we have called for is a strong indication that they now think we are not entirely wrong in our opinions. If we attack them even after they make choices designed to please us, then they will have no reason at all to make any other changes.
I realize that passing on the game is a foregone conclusion for many here, but I think we should at least welcome steps in the right direction, even if they are only baby steps at the start of a marathon.

The math is against them. There is simply not enough time to back peddle far enough to undo the contextual game play, the removal of Stephen Russell, and God knows what other horrible things lurking beneath view. I subscribe to the "parting shot theory" myself. After all, they have been mocking us original fans for quite some time now. ;)

The art style of the video doesn't look all that bad, but the art itself in the video is pretty meh, though. Why would they want to choose such a generic grimdark setting over Thief's unique and memorable take on steampunk and film noir? This looks pretty much like Dickens in industrial revolution era London, complete with social commentary on poverty and social stratification.
The voice acting is some of the worst so far and I'm not even going to comment on the content. Seriously, who writes this stuff?
Also, they actually have a magpie in the game called Jenivere? I thought this was just a stupid joke. Why would they even do such a thing? Did they honestly think it would please the fans if they reused a minor and pretty inconsequential character from the series? Same for Basso, really.

They've done just about the most bone-headed thing they could have done. They've included lots of trivial references to the original games and will be continually reminding the player of what the new game should have been.

You know, I'm beginning to wonder if all that EM has shown and said so far about the game isn't just part of some really big work/hoax they're trying to pull off; and that, in the end, the game is actually brilliant.
... that all of this was just some weird marketing scheme.
... a sort of never-ending April Fool's joke.
... one that leaves you physically ill, and truly considering looking for a rusty pike to jam your head into to make it all end--but a joke, none the less.
... that in the end, it really is a Thief game, and not just something named Thief.
It has to be, because no adult could ever come up with content that bad and be truly serious about it. Hell, I don't think my 10-year-old could even stoop that low, and he has a learning disability.
If they're serious, then to hell with Thief. I couldn't, with any little shred of integrity left in my soul, support the work they've done with any of my hard earned money.
What's yours is mine? You can f***ing have it.

And that, Nuth, is precisely why I thought this was a fan made joke video when I first saw it. This was one of the most hilarious things I have seen about Thief 4. After the laughter died down, I realised that it was *official*.
