I tried starting a new game on easy and the hybrids are still ridiculously fast, I don't stand a chance against them with a melee weapon when they are this quick. This is like trying to play Jetpack at speed 10.

You must be playing another mod or something, their movement speed is unchanged for easy and normal, and a select few attack motions are sped up, nothing the player can't handle, I just checked and I can easily move out of the way of their attacks and counter-attack while they're recovering with Agility 1, and I'm not exactly a wrench-only player.

I'm definitely playing Secmod, but this is not a fresh install so there might be something I forgot to change/remove.
I'll look into this further. I really like the changes listed for Secmod. First thing is to try a complete reinstall of SS2.
Oh, I did make a few changes to the packaging of the mod. Like putting the assets into crf files, then the crfs into their own folder and add that folder to install.cfg's resname_base. I'm weird like that. :o

i have a little break from TTLG every 3 or so months, and everytime I come back something nice and lovely has been released.
Will be downloading this - gives me an excuse to plug the PC into my flatscreen and turn the lights off one night for an evening of SS2. Great stuff.
PS - I would have posted my thanks on SBF but I hadnt logged into that for so long I cant remember my password, and I dont have that e-mail address anymore. ho hum

Why not try reinstalling it and *not* messing around with the file structure?
Anyhow, are you sure it's not just the general game that is sped up for you? Sounds similar to when I forget to turn AA up to some stupid level to reduce the FPS (or use vsync, depending).

No, the hybrids really are fast. It's a 'feature'.
Aekeron on 20/8/2008 at 10:06
Really?
Guess I should actually try it out and see for myself...

I'm starting to suspect that my computer is adding speed to the gameplay. But why this would only happen with secmod I don't know.
Ah well, I'll reinstall the game and install nothing else but secmod for the time being.
And for your information, packaging mods like this is very convenient and actually works. :p You just need to set priorities right in install.cfg, make sure game data doesn't override mod data.
EDIT: Tried a fresh reinstall and the same happens; at Easy the hybrids hit me with their pipe 3 times per second if I stand still. I'm gonna see if I can slow the game down with some driver tinkering.
Ok, I got the speed down a bit, it seems accurate to what is being displayed on youtube, but I'm still seeing these speed increases on Easy. :erm:

Ofcourse you're going to get hit 3 times per second if you stand still, that's the whole point, that you can't stand still anymore and have a pipe hybrid run back and forth for 5 seconds, attack once, then run and back forth again for another 5 seconds, the actual speed increases are quite meager and are only applied to a select few attack animations that before you could dodge by
crouch-walking out of the way, and now you can dodge them by bothering to run out of the way; the real addition that you can't seem to cope is the adjustment that enables the hybrid to actually attack aggressively instead of being stuck in a stupid retreat/advance loop.
The hybrid still has an array of slow/medium/fast attacks like before so you know when to counter-attack, but the window for your counter-attack has gone down from ten seconds to 1.5/3 which is more than enough.
