WrEcK, I believe they dropped the "3" from DS was because they wanted to appeal to the new X-Box audience and were afraid too many people would avoid a "part 3" without having played the first two.
The reason for that is because of the new developer company. This is the only strong argument I can think of.

Unfortunately, what MrMunkeepants said is true. Even though it was a different company, the people who made the decision were ex-LGS people, like Warren Specter. He also made the decision to call it "Deadly Shadows" instead of "The Dark Age".

Huh, there is evidence for a The Dark Age title, except for the in-game content?
Bakerman on 24/12/2009 at 12:02
Did they really consider that? If so, I'd say good on Mr. Specter. A portmanteau of the first two instalments' titles doesn't seem to be any sort of a good idea :p.

Yeah, it probably isn't an overly creative title itself, but at least it would have had some story reference like Dark Project and Metal Age.

And it would've fit better with the story canon.

Exactly. It should belong.
Also, you're the third person to call it "Dark Shadows" recently. What's going on? What language version is it?
No there is not other language version (that I am aware of). I actually meant Deadly Shadows. I was reading other posts and must have come across the other two people who named it that way and for some reason it got stuck in my head that way.
As for the 'Thief
3: Deadly Shadows', I read the same. That it was easier to market as a non sequel so as to not alienate those who hadn't played the first two. I personally prefer consistency and it annoyed me a bit.
Now if I could just be consistent over calling it Deadly Shadows instead of Dark Shadows things would turn up for me!

I believe that Dark Shadows is the name of a vampire-themed TV series. :P

Ah yes! Barnabas. I remember an interview once, where they talked about the budget and how fangs were sometimes paper cut-outs, heh heh.
