I just got a new problem with Thief today; it started saying that there wasn't enough memory to start it. I added skip_starting_checks to user.cfg, which made it possible to start the game, but whenever I try to save the current game, it simply says "not enough disk space". Quicksave works fine though. Is there some other command that makes it skip *any* such check, and not just the one on loading the game?
Edit: I just tried to reboot, and the problem went away. So just ignore this thread please.

Never one to ignore a thread with "... ignore this thread ..." in it, I thought I would offer this:
The thief games pre-date modern large disk drives, and so when your drive gets close to the old boundary (I forget what it used to be ... 528MB? 2.1GB? 4.2GB? 8.4GB? Whatever.) Thief games think you have run out of space when you really haven't. To fix this either delete some of the stuff you never use from your drive OR (and this is the clever bit) ADD MORE STUFF to your drive so that it passes the old boundary. Thief games will think that your drive is mostly empty, and start working again. I suppose it has bits falling all over the floor since you just overflowed a register or something, but it does no harm that I have ever seen, and is MUCH easier than cleaning house on the disk drive. (House cleaning? Yeuck-a-toolie!! I bought my large drive to avoid having to ever do that.)
I fixed this error on ss2 once and for all, I don't know if anyone has done it for Thief yet but you might want to look around.

I have not seen a fix for this in Thief 1, 2, or Dromed. It would be nice if someone did fix it.
