Remember the Matrix trilogy? Potentially the best sci-fi trilogy ever, but in fact utter crap.
And Scots (and those who have seen the whole of series 1):
It can't just be a government consiracy thing since the numbers are too powerful for it to not be something really messed up. Nice rundown of the things we know btw. I especially liked the $23k that Kate mentioned. What's the bets that the numbers link everyone?
I remember the Matrix movie and it's cynical cash-in sequels that they had REALLY TRULY PLANNED FROM THE START ALL ALONG NO REALLY NOT LIARING HONEST.
(I saw the sequels on the weekend for the first time, god damn I'm pleased I didn't pay movie prices to see them)

I just finished watching a torrent of season 2 ep1. Was quite good, and fleshes out a bit more about what's happening while asking a pile more questions.
One thing I found very interesting, for those who watched: I was curious to see what drugs he was injecting, so I freezeframed to see what was written on the bottles of liquid - and up the top was written "CR 4-81516-23 42. If you look carefully, those are the numbers. 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42. gasp

Did you notice that when Walt appears in the woods along with The Others, he whispers something that might have been in pertinant to a scene later in the same episode...
"Press the buttons, no buttons bad"
So what's that about? Locke didn't seem to think it was wise to do so, so why is Walt telling him to do it?

Maybe Locke said that just to
prevent Jack from pissing off the scottish guy anymore than they already had by being inside in the first place.
After all he did have
a gun to his head!
The fully
reversed mp3 can be found for instance here:
(
http://www.bakkelun.net/filer/walt_inthewoods.mp3) CLICK!
There's 2 things as far as I can hear:
"Press the button, no button's bad" (hold a coin on this one)
or "Press the button, dont let em spare"
Probably in reference to the execute button on the console in Desmond's "jail".
the fact that the hatch has QUARANTINE on it in HUGE letters adds weight to the whole test-site theory thingy; governmental experiments etc.
however that doesnt explain the fucked up stuff with Walt and the Others etc. Maybe the island they're on is where they dumped all the tapes of Twin Peaks; and they've "evolved" into their own consciousness...
Edit: First post on two consecutive pages, I rule.

oh, i just realised something after watching the episode again.
at the start of 2.01, we hear a BOOM sound while the dude is doing his morning routines. then we see him rushing about to get Rambo-ed up for a fight.
the camera pans around quickly, from the telescope to the mirrors eventually to the scene of locke and jack peering down the newly exposed hatch.
but here's the thing - who is to say that the BOOM at the start of the episode is from teh explosion which opens the hatch door? its possible that its from the plane crashing way back at the start of the show; or even from something else.
simply compare the guy at the start of the episode - all neat, showered, tidy etc. to the guy at the end holding the gun to locke - dirty, dishevelled, a mess.
not the same guy?
I think that's a stupid idea, the fingernails could easily have got grubby in the tussles Desmond might have had with Kate or Locke. Anyway from the look of the equipment - including a very 60s-looking computer - that's down in the missile-silo styled military-looking bunker down the hatch, I'd wager that the government theory must be getting stronger than ever. Intriguing TV!
2 primary curiosities from this episode: Walt and QUARANTINE.
The last point ties into what the French lady had talked about previously, whereas the Execute might allude to the security system?
And my personal theory is that: over the next few weeks the next set of integrated backstories will be delving further back in time with our protagonists - like finding out why Hurley was in a psych ward and what Kate actually did - and that we will meet either: Desmond in all of them, or members of the party who will eventually be the entire group known as 'The Others'
Although there's no guarantee that Desmond is an 'Other'.
Good TV, but I hope they can keep it up.
