I bet Candle and Wickman are clones, and Secret Plot Device Film #3 will be a DVD narrated by Dr Michael Wax.

Michael Wax, I had to look up that reference :p
Anyways, Film #3 will be even less informative than the last two films.
"Welcome to Station 4, The Flame. You and your partner will be in here for the next 16 months. What will you be doing you ask? You'll figure it out eventually. On behalf of the DeGroots, Alvar Hanso, and all of us here at the Dharma Initiative - thank you. Namaste and good luck."
The next film the survivors find after that will just show them a big middle finger.

$10 says The Flame orientation film won't be narrated by Candle, Wickman, Wax, or anyone like that. I bet it will me HELLO I AM DOCTOR MELTED PUDDLE WELCOME TO THE OH GOD OH GOD IM ON FIRE.
This show really does dance on the very edge of rolleyes in a lot of the writing, and I really do fear that as it becomes more mainstream popular (which the Bad Twin compaign is really going to spur -- I think they are trying for Dan Brown levels of hype here, which is a terrible prospect -- and the website ARG shit pushes it higher, or lower, depending on how you look at it) then the writing will get even more convenient and blatant and just generally weak.
That is my fear.
The way to tell is to track the meteoric rise of Expository Dialogue. That's usually your first warning signal that things are going to shit.

I haven't had any problems with the writing so far. Th show's been primarily written and produced by the same two men for it's entire run so far, and they've been signed on to write and produce the next season as well.
As for the book and website thing, I don't have a problem with that either. The whole 'Lost Experiance' was created for fans of the show to keep them busy over the summer. I don't think ABC's going to pick up any new fans or make the show more mainstream because of it.

Damn, I hate laughing at GBM's jokes, but that one actually made me LOL.

'k; I don't know about anyone else here, but I AM FUCKING SICK AND TIRED OF MICHAEL!!! Yeah, sure, he wants his kid back, but he didn't have to kill AnaLucia and Libby!! I mean, come on!! He knows these people! Why couldn't he just have told them what the Others wanted him to do? Locke, Jack, Sawyer, Sayid, Kate, Mr. Eko, etc. - they're all intelligent people (until their IQs suddenly dropped last nite)! They would've figured something out for cryin' out loud! And I can't believe they dumbed-down everybody except Sayid in regards to Michael's obviously strange behavior (yeah - I know, that could be chalked up to his just wanting his son back, but please! He was really over the top more than once!). I got very sick of Michael's histrionics by the end of the first 10 minutes of the show. I LOVED Sayid's response when Mikey was trying to convince him that he couldn't go along to rescue Walt. That was humoring/placating at its best! (Though I wish Sayid would just twist his head off & be done with it at this point.)
I also loved Mr. Eko's parable. I just wish they wouldn't have made Mr. E. so fucking obsessed with his visions and missions. He was a force to be reckoned with prior to becoming a priest. I think he tweaked onto Michael's strange behavior, but frustratingly enough is now so focused on the bunker it seemed as if he couldn't have cared less that Mikey's become a murderer. Wonder how that fact will sit with little Walt when he finds out?
I still think the Others are the original doctors/scientists who somehow got stranded on the Island twenty years ago and this virus has made them more than a little nuts and obsessed with their experiments. A deserted sailboat? Another experiment, I say.
And where the fuck did Locke take off to now? To finally join the Others? Or to formulate a plan of his own to rescue Walt (remember how close he & Walt were before Michael started having hissy fits about it)? Or maybe he's just as fed up with Walt's dad's hysterics as I am. Looks like Locke's going to get his Walkabout regardless.
P.S. YAY Charlie!! And YAY Claire finally trusting our ex-Hobbit again! And I can't believe Sawyer spilled the beans about his last act with AnaLucia to Jack! A man misunderstood; I've said it from the start. Well - almost.

HELLO IM MISS CLUE YOU MAY HAVE MET MY HUSBAND DR PLOT DEVICE WHAT
paging councilman contrivance councilman contrivance to the white courtesy phone in the bunker for an urgent call from officer convenient-exposition
I don't know what to make of this week's episode again. On one hand it advanced things a fair amount, but on the other hand it was an awful lot of repetition of things that could (and probably should) have been dealt with in fifteen minutes. YES WE GET IT. WAAAAAAALT WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALT four names and only those people lol how interesting that it's the exact four people who get far too much screen time lately.
I hope Eko eats Walt. Somebody got to.

I think Desmond is on the boat. I wonder if they can fit 42 people on that thing.
Dia on 18/5/2006 at 20:26
I'm tellin' ya, the sailboat is just another experiment! It's the old let's-make-an-empty-seemingly-in-good-condition-sailboat-miraculously-appear-and-see-what-happens ploy.
I second GBM. Michael definitely needs to die a horrible death.
tot: Anybody else see him (Harrold Perrineau) as Mercutio in the '96 version of Romeo & Juliet? He ranted in that one, too (but looked great in the platinum wig). Now I really hate him.
T-Smith on 18/5/2006 at 20:32
I thought the episode was good, but this was the first episode of the season that I felt dragged things out too much. A lot of the episode could have been condensed (as GBM pointed out) and I too wanted to strangle Michael by the end of the episode ("I CAN YELL AND BE ANGRY AND STUPID BECAUSE THEY HAVE MY SON AND YOU CAN'T COME WITH US AND WALT AND YOU CAN'T COME AND WALT AND SMALL GROUP ONLY AND WALT AND WALT AND FATHER'S RIGHT AND WALT AND NO RAID FOR YOU SAYID!")
