I tried watching a few episodes of Lost when it was first on. I really wanted to like this show. However, it never really grabbed me as much as I had hoped, and eventually I gave up.
That doesn't mean it's a bad show, but probably just that it's lacking some untangiable element that I need to keep me interested. That doesn't mean I won't grow to like it with all the reruns they're showing right now.

I actually liked how the season ended
with Locke and Jack staring down the hatch together; it nicely setup the good vs evil (white vs black stone) idea they have.
I'm of the mindset though,
that the island wont turn into a huge government/science plot thing; my belief is that it is actually mystic and paranormal etc. Walt clearly has psychic powers, which leads me to believe does anyone else on the island have the same power - after all, the Others came after Walt; but they also harrassed the rest of the camp through Ethan who was one of them.
Regarding
the "Monster", I love the whole security system angle they've gone with towards the end of the season; we're led to believe its protecting the hatch; but I dont think so, we've never seen or heard the moster near the hatch - infact, all we've had near the hatch is Locke's "vision" of the plane crashing which heralds Boone's death.
Anyway, Season 2 starts in the US towards the end of September.
Regarding my current crop of TV shows keeping me hooked:
House MD
Lost (watching it again)
Deadwood - I'm with Scots on this one, I love it; but its not a mustwatchnextepisodenow! type of show.
Boston Legal
Stargate (both)
Battlestar Galactica
Quite a healthy selection right there.

I keep hearing about this House. I caught 5 mins of it and was just freaked out by the Prince from Blackadder 3rd (Hugh) speaking with an American accent. They say it's ER meets CSI, and that in itself is enough to both interest me and bring out the cheeze-o-cheese rack.

Deadwood
Now
that one grows on me by every single episode. I may even get to like it.
I never expected that much from Lovejoy.

Ep4 - Locke's tale... splendid.
So couldn't help but watch the E4 next episode.

House is okay, but I wish Hugh Laurie was speaking without the American accent.
We get Lost season 2 in April. :(

Hurley is probably the best character on the show, which is kinda cool because he was only developed halfway through the season once they figured out that everybody loved him.
It's still an awesome show (because of the well done cliffhangers), but I have a feeling that, like other JJ Abrams shows, it's going to have a short shelf life. I'm optimistic for the coming season, but dreading the increasingly retarded shit that will undoubtedly pop up. It might have been better to just be a miniseries. I'm already assuming that I'll have lost interest by season 3, and this needs to be a good season to convince me otherwise.
---------------------------------------
As for Sopranos - they originally planned only 10 episodes for the upcoming "final" season 7 - to start in January.
They ended up filming 20, so we'll get a full run of 13 eps, plus a season 7.5 a year later.
Personally, I think Gandolfini knows this is the best meal ticket he's ever going to have, and he'll keep pushing the producers for more storylines til they drop. We'll see a season 10 before all is said and done.
------------
I've said most of what I think about (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=85046&highlight=deadwood) Deadwood already. Damn shame there won't be a season 3 of (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=94317) Carnivale.
Other than Entourage right now, and the usual Arrested Development/Curb Your Enthusiasm upcoming seasibs, only other thing on my TV sched* is My Name Is Earl. I've seen the pilot, and it's hysterical. With Jason Lee as a white trash scumbag intent on changing his karma, the whole thing works.
*DVD Sched includes catching up on The Shield, I'm only partway through season 2.

Yes. Fantastic! Best thing to happen to sci-fi in a while.

Oh and I recently got back into an old love: Northern Exposure - it's Twin Peaks lite and pure fun from start to finish. I love TV shows that just have a nice internal consistency, even if not much happens in the episodes except you learning more about the community and how wacky the world is... Bloody good show.
Word. That show rocked and I miss it. Yeah, it could get a bit overly sweet and precious, but sometimes it was fucking transcendent.
