They just finished broadcasting the first season here. Definitely hooked. I can't wait to see what's next, to the point I may finally forget my fears of p2p and download the second show straight off Bittorrent as soon as it's up. :)

It's awesome reading the new viewer's posts when they're halfway through it having seen all of season 1.
It sucks ass knowing our dipshit TV channels will air the next season in APRIL next year leaving me out of the fun of talking about the series AT ALL. Wankers.

I may have to start watching this, I've heard so much about it. I'm highly resistant to adding shows to my list... currently I only watch L&O SUV and Scrubs, and that's it. But every time I breeze by this show, there seems to be a cute guy on the screen. Hell, even the big guy's not bad. (Oh, right, good writing and acting, uh, that too. :D )

ahem - i believe it was 3 dvds...

Question for those who've seen quite a bit of Lost - is it worth persevering with if you were a bit underwhelmed with the quality of acting, dialogue etc but intrigued by the plot and some of the characters? I watched the first 3 or so episodes on Channel 4 and thought the premise was excellent - but was extremely disappointed with the way it was executed. Still, it did make me want to know what happens next at every turn. Right up until the polar bear turned up anyway. I can't suspend my disbelief *that* much.

The Episode about Hurley (the big guy) is teh win.
That is all.
[re:persevering] Unfortunately, the first season is very up/down. It was originally planned as a 13 episode mini-series, but was picked up as a full season.
They had to add a lot of padding.
The general concensus seems to be that you should watch every 3rd episode and the last 5 minutes of every episode and you'll pick up the gist of it.
Personally, I'm mostly satisfied with the writing. Some of it is very drawn out and seemingly useless, but they do find ways to tie insignificant facts in later on.

Oli G, definitely watch it. How the polar bear got on the island is (partially) explained in a later episode.

Here's what's happening with me in TV world...
Six Feet Under, my favourite show for the past few years is coming to a close. I'm currently getting the last episode and that's it all done. It's good to have ended before it went really stale, and true enough that it had wandered far from it's original focus on the funeral home to a high-concept soap opera... but the acting, the script and the big questions about life remained so consistently compelling that I just had to watch. I'm embarassed to say that my views are swayed by a TV show... but Keith and David as the gay couple in the centre stage of a lot of life crises made me question a lot of the world's fundamental prejudices against homosexuality. And maybe some of my own prejudices too!
Lost has stepped nicely into SFU's place... helping me ease the passing. :(
Scrubs has been replaced by Arrested Development since it lost its edge and started wandering into Friends territory (that of: hey look JDs hooking up with Elliot and now he's hooking up with carla and wtf, Doc Cox is doing the Chandleresque routine of doing the only thing he does whichistheincrediblylongrantswiththereeeeheeeallyelongatedvowels Cindy). That and Arrested Development being totally awesome, possibly the most incisive and real comedy I've ever seen.
Deadwood needs continuing, I have all of season 2 but not the motivation to watch it... I think this stems from the show being really brilliant but never surprising. I will watch it because the acting and the story and the production values are pretty damn high, but that's about it.
Where oh where art thou Sopranos? It's in a class of its own. The last season had ups and downs, but overall it's one of the most witty, brutal, ground-breaking shows on TV ever.
Oh and I recently got back into an old love: Northern Exposure - it's Twin Peaks lite and pure fun from start to finish. I love TV shows that just have a nice internal consistency, even if not much happens in the episodes except you learning more about the community and how wacky the world is... Bloody good show.

Good points about
Scrubs there. The Cox rants are drifting into the dangerous realms of self-parody ... although I don't know if that's because they've *changed* particularly, or whether I've just been overexposed.
Sometimes (mostly) they overdo that sappy shit at the end too. But I suppose if it was missing, I'd go 'oh no, where was the sappy shit!' Also it ocassionally works and hits the mark, which I suppose makes it worthwhile.
Arrested Development is outstanding and is continuing a fine tradition of being TREATED LIKE SHIT by BBC2 (hi,
Seinfeld!) Half eleven on a Sunday, ffs. OH GEE, WE JUST CAN'T SQUEEZE IT IN BETWEEN RICKY GERVAIS TRADING ON HIS EVER-DIMINISHING REPUTATION AND CATHERINE TATE FORMING A TERRIFYING COMEDY VOID INTO WHICH ALL MIRTH WILL BE SUCKED.
Fuck you, Beeb 2!

Finished watching it today courtesy of a work colleague with Bittorrent.
Seriously do not highlight unless you want to know the end.
Mmmmmm. Psychic powers are awash on the island or so it seems given that Walt has been snatched by the "others", the mysterious whispering and that the monster doesn't seem to be visible in any way other than as a brief flicker in the background.
My colleague suggested that it may devolve into a generic government/huge corporation experiment/conspiracy storyline for the next season.
Complete bugger of a thing to end on though. Roll on the next season.
I want to see more.
