Aight, just watched the first 5 in succession. Fuckin' A, it's awesome. Like a weird cross between Fantasy Island and Forbidden Planet.
Definitely hooked.
And in a sign of true greatness, it is enjoyable to watch in its own right, AND lends itself very well to Misting. There are tons in every episode, and some good staples:
"Dammit, I'm a Doctor not a ________" - everytime they ask Jack to do anything.
Cheap r/l jokes with the asian couple.
And a hobbit joke for every occasion when Meriadoc is on the screen.

Bit Torrent doesn't work here, and I've missed all the first episodes. This show sounds interesting.
Bit Torrent shittiness = :(
I'll have to wait until break before I can download all of them.
Was I the only one thinking "not idly do the leaves of Lorien fall" at certain parts of tonight's (last nights, depending on perspective) episode? My current theory on the island: The minds of children are the only minds that can actually effect the island, (polar bear being linked to Walt's comic book, rain stopping because Walt wants Michael to find his dog, Walt always rolling exactly what he needs in backgammon) so whoever these other people are they want Claire's baby so they can make the baby give them everything they want. The effect only lasts until a certain age, so right before the child reaches that age they make the kid arrange the arrival of another pregnant person (assuming Rousseau was pregnant when the science ship crashed). Something else on the island makes people sterile, or the child has to have been concieved off the island or something and that's why they don't just fuck like bunnies for more mystical kiddies.
Ethan is one creepy fucking bastard.
I think the real answer is more mysterious/mystical than that. Something to do with how kids are more 'susceptible' to the paranormal, or something.
I do hope the final answer will be a combination of scientific/supernatural, rather than either one (purgatory, dream / aliens, INTERDIMENSIONAL TIME RIFT FLUX CAPACITATOR)

Okay, so late to the party...
I'm 9 episodes in. Just finished the episode with the french lady.
I'm liking the backstories, although some of the episodes suffer from the usual cliches of television plots. Totally lollin' at some of the character stuff that's going on too. I muttered something about that korean guy is gonna go whack on that black dood and next episode WHAM. Same with the french lady, I knew Sahid was going to walk straight into her path as soon as he left the camp.
I'm trying not to formulate any theories because at the moment I'm enjoying being as lost as the characters seem to be. Purgatory is an obvious one which hits you right away, but I'm hoping it's something more than that. However, what I am thinking is - if the french ladywas telling the truth about her killing the other members of her party because they changed or something. Then it's possible that something is still to happen... something that will change the people we're with...
Anyhoo, got more than half of the season to go. I'm enjoying it.
Someone told me that apparently J.J.Abrams has said there'll be 5 series max. That's good to hear, although I'm surprised if the momentum can last that long... not knowing what's really going on has a habit of getting old fast unless he really has a fully developed plot in his mind.

haha watching it on channel 4 as it arrives
that means I've watched 3 episodes so far....good stuff, but I'm not CRAZY INSANE enough to actually torrent it.
SubJeff on 24/8/2005 at 12:31
I'm watching it on Channel 4/E4 too. I've only seen the 1st 3 (all in 1 night, been looking forward to ep4 on later today) but I like it so far. I think the fact that yous all give it the big ups tells me that it's not going to turn into cheese.
One thing about the posters in the UK - the doc's tatoo is REALLY prominent on it. Does anyone know what the chinese characters mean? My gf can only read 2/4; 1 she doesn't know and the other is too distorted to make out and she says you can't tell what it says without all of them. Chinese is like that. I'm convinced the tat is important.
One thing with a mystery series like this is you can't talk to people in case they spoil it. My bro has seen the 1st series and he's already spoilt some things by accident. Now I won't discuss it with him at all.

Ok, I haven't read the first page of this (except Noid's opening post) due to INDUCED SPOILER TERROR.
Anyway, I think it's clear that the dog is going to eat them all.
Also, is that bald dude with the menacing scar REALLY called 'John Locke'? I have a feeling he is. Which is interesting.
Ep4 tonight (and Ep5 if you're some kind of E4 freak with no sense of patience OH I MUST SEE THE SERIES END ONE WEEK BEFORE EVERYONE ELSE) - joy! :D
blackbabyjesus on 24/8/2005 at 13:04
when is this shit starting back up?!
I need more LOST.
Scots Taffer on 24/8/2005 at 13:32
Kate commented on the tattoo in a recent episode, saying "it didn't add up" what with him being a doctor. I thought that was a bit of a retarded statement although it kind of makes sense. I don't know my chinese though, so I can't read it anyway!
The Alpha Male, Doc is obviously meant to be a big character in more ways than one although you can tell that Kate, Locke, Sawyer (
or wtf he's called) are all going to get more backstory limelight soon. We need to know quite a lot of things, like...
What did Kate do?
What made Locke lose the ability to walk?
How did Sawyer eventually become Sawyer other than the lol irony explanation?
What the fuck is going on with all those other 30 or so in the background... some of whom are emerging to the fore: hives guy with the glasses and ethan the pseudo hunter?I didn't torrent them anyway, some (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/member.php?u=25773) crazy bastard did and then he burned them onto a couple of DVDs for me.
I'm not taking the show too seriously since it certainly doesn't. I mean, a guy kicking rehab in a day or so... wtf. Also, there is just way too much near disaster only involving the key members of the party... but it's entertaining tosh nonetheless.
