I can't speak for Fett but I would and you could throw in nearly any sport but golf and it would be the same. It's a bit like Jackass, once you've seen someone with a sparkler up thier butt once the novelty is gone and it's just a bunch of idiots struting about whereas actual physical striving toward a goal not preordained is interesting.
The only way I would watch wrestling is if I were chained to a chair with the remote and the only other channel was Housewives of whogivesadamn. I would even watch cars go around in a circle, at least they have an honest wreck once in awhile.
Honest Injun.

I'd rather watch neither, but "I watch wrestling for the althetisicm" is akin to "I read Playboy for the articles," and I call bullshit. :erg:

I watch it for the story telling that certain wrestlers have the ability to portray with their in ring work. Most wrestlers use athleticism to tell that story. I don't really see how you could call bullshit on that.

Wow... ok. Because to me that clip is just a dude swinging around a bar over and over and doing a jump every once in a while. It
does look cool but there are only so many different manuevers he can do before he starts repeating himself. Sure it's difficult and takes great skill to do but it doesn't make for entertaining viewing, not to me. Not as entertaining as wrestling at least.
Then again I don't like watching any sports.
edit: but (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBmADxazbW0) this shit! (skip to 5:00) this is pure entertainment. Don't get so hung up on if it's real or not. It's a semi-improvised fightscene by actors who do their own stunts.
Or stuntmen who do their own acting, is perhaps a more apt description.

Yeah, I find gymnastics entertaining. Not so much the bar work but especially the freeform mat stuff.
And I watch UFC and it's ilk so I just cannot stand that wrestling nonsense. I don't see any special athleticism in it and even if I did it's just so corny that I can't watch it for more than a few minutes. Fight scenes from 1980s Western action films with rubbish acting, terrible scripts and ridiculous plots are more entertaining despite their similarity to the "pro" wrestling bs tbh.

The fact remains that when done well, pro wrestling successfully combines spectacular athleticism with well-delivered promos along with the crowd participation and is a lot of fun to watch.

I'm confused - you say you watch it for the athleticism so I point out that there are much better athletic competitions available (real ones, not staged). So now you watch it for the storytelling. I guarantee you could walk into any bookstore or library and pick a random book off the shelf and find more compelling storytelling, told by folks who have most of their teeth and have never oiled themselves up to hit someone over the head with a chair. Just sayin'.
To each his own, and all apologies to wrestling fans, it just looks to me like bad acting + fake fights + pre-pubescent drama + oily men in thongs = silly. I guess I'm overlooking the deeper narrative.
@henke - I'm not making a case for which is more entertaining. Obviously wrestling is, if you're into that kind of thing. But justifying its inanity by pointing to its great athletes is a bit wonky IMO. It's like saying "I watch Jerry Springer because Jerry is such a great host."

Whats sad is that people actually care to argue about it. To each his own.
