Armand Van Helden - he's just excellent. really steppy, funky house stuff. his style has evolved a lot of times over the years but he is a great DJ, good artist, and amazing remixer. check out any of his "speed garage" remixes from the 1998-1999 era and you will be impressed. most commonly available is the remix of sneaker pimps' "spin spin sugar", but i'm particularly fond of his speed garage mix of Goldie's song "digital" (because Goldie is also amazing... you should check him out)
DJ Dan - artist & dj - very hard house, this shit will mash you up
Kaskade - artist - check out their album .... really soulful, funky house
DJ Sneak - not sure if he's still around but back in the day he used to play some great filter disco stuff
Eric Morillo - great all around house DJ
ATB - great artist and great DJ. really beautiful trance tracks. i've lately been listening to his commercially released dj mixes... almost every day for the past month!
Basement Jaxx - artist & dj - no comment neccessary. they are simply amazing. funky as hell. although i don't really like their newer stuff... check out their 1st two albums, or even some of their older stuff from before they had an album out
Chicane - artist - a little more mellow than the others i've mentioned, but really beautiful music, and still definitely classifiable as dance .... "behind the sun" is an absolute classic. "easy to assemble" is a great album too.
if you're looking to get into something a little more cheesy (but ultimately more musical), i'd recommend:
DJ Sammy - artist - yes, he's cheese as hell. everybody has heard the "heaven" remix... but seriously, check out some of his songs on the new album - "long way to go", "follow my star", "lbby haba"
Lasgo - artist :D :D :D check out the song "deep in your heart"
Milk Inc - artist ...... well maybe i've ventured too far into cheese land :joke:
i'm a funky house/disco DJ.. i'll probably be recording a new set and putting it online for download in the next couple weeks, if anybody's interested i can post a link here... just drop me a PM if you're interested :)

I'd recommend checking out the following CDs:
Pendulum - Hold Your Colour
Dieselboy - The Dungeonmaster's Guide
Yoji Biomehanika - Music For A Harder Generation
Dave Clarke - World Service 1 & World Service 2
Lab 4 - Virus
And also check out the following artists:
Anne Savage
Zen Terrorists
Umek
DJ Fresh
Monika Kruse
Electrochemie LK
Adam F
And (
http://www.ishkur.com) Ishkur's Guide to Electronic Music is a superb place to get more artists from.
Have fun.
PS - Bass bin hugging is usually contraindicated :D.

If you want Benny Benassi style stuff, the best thing to do is probably look for a few house compilations which have his stuff on. Shouldn't be hard, 'Satisfaction' was everywhere.
Yeah, it was
so everywhere that you'd probably find that track on compilations alongside such monstrosities as Macarena and Las Ketchup, and I don't think young TTK would thank you if he picked one of those up :p.
But I will forgive you since you are named after one of my favourite house anthems of the early 90s :D.
Let's get back to the original post:

I am wondering if anyone here likes house, trance, techno, dance, or anything of the like and can give me a recommendation or two. I've already picked out Benny Bennassi(is that right?) and Arash as two of the artists I am going to buy in bulk the next time I order music.
Okay, "house, trance, techno, dance" spans a huuuuge range of music; Bonnie Tyler and Sepultura are both "rock" and that's a similar kind of variation we're dealing with here :).
But it's clear from this comment:
Quote:
To be more specific, I am looking for music that will make one anxious (not stressed out) and want to get up and move.
that you're not looking for anything like IDM (so-called "Intelligent Dance Music", aka music you can't
actually dance to) so can everyone who mentioned stuff like Autechre plz get out of thred kthx.
Now I ain't familiar with Arash, but Benassi I do know, and that's more at the harder, funkier, trancier, electro end. As well as his solo stuff, you should look out for the tracks he recorded with his cousin as the
Benassi Brothers.
Other artists/remixers roughly in this vein I think you
might like:
Mauro Picotto,
Paul van Dyk,
Timo Maas,
Armand van Helden,
Ferry Corsten,
JDS,
Green Velvet.
Some albums I can recommend off the top of my head:
Deep Dish - Junk Science,
BT - Ima,
Laurent Garnier - 30,
Baby Doc & Jon The Dentist - In Worship Of False Idols,
Way Out West - Way Out West. All of these are at least a few years old though, mainly because I am hideously out of touch with the modern scene ;).
It's tough to outright recommend artists for a couple of reasons, however - namely, that quality of output is highly variable, even when you're dealing with highly respected artists (oh god mousse t horny horny horny why), and you can add to that the fact that the bigger names are prone to switching genres at the drop of a hat to show how versatile and talented they are hello Josh Wink no I don't want to listen to your poetry give me the fucking techno. I'd personally be more inclined to recommend compilation albums or specific record labels.
You should certainly track down any of the
Super Discount compilations, some of the
Ministry Of Sound compilations are decent too (but watch out for the cack). Try seeking out any of the
Cream compilations, particularly ones from the 1990s.
Now it is an absolute given that you are going to love some of the stuff I have recommended, and hate the rest of it. This is why (
http://www.juno.co.uk/) Juno is your friend. Thousands and thousands of MP3 samples you can listen to before you buy anything. If you can't find anything you like there, then I'm a Dutchman.
PS one track I am going to mention:
Freak Power - New Direction (Way Out West remix) - if you do not feel the need to dance to this record, you are not human. That is all.
PPS good calls io organic on
DJ Sneak and
Eric Morillo... :thumb:

Way Out West remix
good call on Way out west... they have a really good song called "mindcircus", although i can't remember if it's the album version or one of the remixes that is really good
oh also ... since some of us are getting into non 4/4 territory here, i must recommend the albums:
Hybrid - wide angle == beautiful breakbeat
Goldie - Timeless == my favourite album ever. really intricate jungle. check out the song "timeless" or "sea of tears"
edit: also as Strontium said, pretty much any of the ministry of sound compilations are good. also any mixes from the "Hed Kandi" label are usually pretty good too

The Gabriel & Dresden remix is the famous remix (and rightly so, it's superb) but the original was pretty good too (from the album Intensify).
Good call on Astral Projection too, "Back From Hell" is a really good track despite not being on any of their albums. I can't really decide whether they're Goa or Psy, but that's the pretentious nature of the genre continuously shifting their sub-genre definitions. Or having them in the first place, really.

The Cat Empire actually made it out of Australia? Blimey

I did say 'house compilation'. Just make sure there's some semi-naked woman wearing headphones on the front, and you have nothing to fear.

Indeed. I am a Way Out West nut.
Juno can be a bit intimidating for casual/new fans - there's literally tens (hundreds?) of thousand of tunes there. Although I do sometimes spend a few hours downloading several hundred samples, then another few hours listening to them in the background.
edit: other housey labels to look out for: Azuli, Defected, Hooj. Or for slightly more chilled out house: Naked & Guidance are the best. I stopped trainspotting a couple years ago though, so I'm a bit out of touch.

I suggest (
http://inm.necrobation.org/fan%20stuff.htm) Impaled Northern Moonforest. Who needs machines that go "ping" when you've got an acoustic guitar to play, and knees to slap?

Guys, I'm really sorry that I have not been able to respond to your posts. My connection to this site sucks for some reason and I'm almost unable to write a paragraph before it closes up. I am also very sick and can barely move without feeling like crap.
I just wanted to thank you for all your suggestions and I hope that I can check everything out.
