Upon the recommendation of a friend I D/L'd the Demo to check out his musings.
After killing the Goblin Lord I clicked on stairs to move to next level--what I got was booted to desktop with "Enumeration error-your system is unstable and requires a reboot"
The ddhelp file was corrupted, directX was corrupted, requiring reinstall of directx 8.1
Upon re-entering game NONE of the 10 saved game files would load--all would give the exact same failure.
I am able to start a new game and save it after I kill the Jailer-this will reload ok but I am loath to continue fearful that it will all go to crap after I kill Goblin Lord again(or perhaps even sooner).
Any clues whats happening here??

What are the system specs? How big is your swap file? Do you have a VIA motherboard, and if so, installed the VIA 4-in-1 driver? Latest grafic card drivers? Does your system have IRQ conflicts? Is your HD cable properly connected (and the right one?) ?
Did you defragment your harddisk? Run Norton System doctor or something similiar?
HTH

HTH I'm fairly Computer savvy.I keep my System in good order. I play several Resident games and several Online games at moment without any problems whatsoever. Only with the Arx Fatalis Demo have I had a problem.
Even now-after starting a new game and saving several times-try to load a saved game and now I'm getting this:
DDHELP caused an invalid page fault in
module <unknown> at 0000:baab99f4.

Then I get the "Enumeration error-your system maybe unstable now and will require a reboot".
Then I have to re-install DirectX 8.1 all over again for other Programs to function correctly.
Seems its time to delete AF from my HD.

You are the first one I see to get an error message (but visibly not from Arx itself) when being kicked out of the game.
Is your video card overclocked? (what is your video card btw?) What OS are you using?
When only one person out of quite a bunch has a problem, I usually tend to think (which doesn't mean it is true) that the problem comes from his/her configuration rather than from the game...

Well, its deleted from my HD and I no longer have that problem. That tell you something? It certainly told me it was ALL AF! Nuff said.

Just because all other programs work, doesn't mean *anything* on your computer works 100%. (That fallacy is often observed in software development. Just because most of your program's code is okay, doesn't mean that it works: always, anytime, and on any system nor that any bit of your code works at all.
Of course, AF *has* bugs and we hope the final version is better ;)
